So for the past month I have been having pain in my right side (like a fork turning around and around) which I can stand. But what I can't stand is I will feel sick out of no where and I haven't had a soild BM for over a month. So my nurse talk to my doc and he thinks it should come out now. I have stones, but I was hoping I could hold it off until Oct when WLS will probaly be. I go in the 28th to talk to him about this. I asked the nurse how long I would be off work ( I work at a gas station) and she said 2 weeks!!! Holly cow, if its going to be that long do both sugeries at once lol. I'm not gonna lie I am going to ask him that lol. Ya ya ya, I know the answer. I guess I'm just venting, but advice is always welcome :)

I guess it's different for everyone, but when my gall bladder was removed, I honestly felt fine the very next day.  I took one dose of pain meds that night, and the next day was out running errands and stuff like normal.

The soonest I'm aloud to go back is a week. But I have to go in and have a check-up with him. And I won't be able to take pain pills for a week....So its kinda like a catch 22

Why would you need to be off pain pills for a whole week before going back to work?  And does your employer require you to have a doctor's OK to return to work if you're only off for a couple days?  I'm not trying to suggest you should go back sooner than you're ready.  I'm just wondering why you would need to be off that long if you feel OK sooner than that.

Kelly... I see so many people on here who have had WLS and have had to have their gall bladder removed. What is the corellation? (if any?)

Rapid weight loss upsets the balance of bile salts to cholesterol, which causes gall stones.  About 32% of patients end up with gall stones.  There is a medication called Actigall, which helps prevent gall stones.  Only about 2% of patient on Actigall get stones.  It's usually taken for six to 12 months after RNY.  Some docs don't prescribe it routinely though for some reason so you might want to ask yours about it.

Ok, I know my surgeon does prescribe this because a work friend who has my surgeon was prescribed this following her surgery last month. Is it true that some surgeons routinely remove the gall bladder along with performing the RNY?  If that's the case and there are so many issues, why wouldn't all do u think?

Some do routinely remove the gall bladder, but others think "if it aint broke, don't fix it."  While we can live without our gall bladder, it does do some things for us.  It stores bile and releases more of it when we eat something fatty, for instance.  Without that, some people end up getting diarrhea if they eat much fat.  And removing the gall bladder during RNY makes surgery take longer, although I don't think it's a lot longer, but the longer you're under anesthesia, the riskier it is.  And every time they have to cut and sew something inside you, there is a chance it won't heal right or will get infected.  So while most people do just fine if they have their gall bladder removed during RNY, there are some risks.

Personally, I think since Actigall is so effective, it makes sense to me to take that and keep the gall bladder if it's healthy.  Like any medication, it can have side effects, but I think it's safer than removing the gall bladder.

That is what the nurse said. It doesn't make much sense to me. And ya, even if I have one day off work I need a doc note to come back. This pain isn't bad to me, but I did walk one 3 broke joints in my foot for over a year before having sugery on that. I like I can take a lot more pain. I'm going to see if I can hold off til oct.

I would hold off if you can, just so you don't have to go under general anesthesia twice.  But if you're in much pain, then I wouldn't want to wait.
