I think I'd talk to the surgeon about the risks of waiting and then decide. I think getting stones in the bile duct can be dangerous.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I am having my gallbladder out on the 18th. My doc told me to expect to be off work for 2-3 weeks due to this being the third surgery in three months and because i am still not recovered from the first 2.
My gall bladder symptoms started about 4 weeks ago when I started to be sick to my stomach all the time. Over the last couple weeks it got much worse everytime I eat and just in the last couple days I experience extreme pain when I eat. It is going to be a long wee****il surgery given that I can't really eat anything.
I wouldn't wait too long to have it removed if I was you. It can start to infect your liver and can make you super sick.

I'm so sorry that you are going to have to go threw another sugery soo soon. I wish you the best. The nurse told me about the chance of infection, but I kinda look at it this way. If I never started going threw the steps for wls I would have never knew about my gallbaddler.

Scooby, I had my gallbladder removed during the RNY, infact I also had a herniated umbilical cord repaired also during the RNY (May 17th). I have 7 inflicted wounds in my stomach area. LOL. I didn't even know about the gallbladder until I arrived at the hospital the morning of surgery. I don't recommend 3 much less 2 surgeries at one time. But I would perfer to do them all at once and not have to go back to that damn hospital.
Reading your post you talk about your pain for over a month and say you "might" have WLS in Oct. My understanding of gallbadder pain comes from the 3 trips my wife made to the hospital before they finally figured out what it was her gallballader. Each trip to the hospital her pain was worse. My wife is the strongest person in the world as far as pain goes. But this pain made her cry. Why take the chance that the pain won't get worse over 4 months "if" you are approved for Oct.
This medication they talk about is to prevent gallstones. What will it do if you already have them? Likewise my understanding is the surgeons prescribe the medication after RNY to lessen your chance of getting them.
Good luck which ever way you go.
Jim

Thanks for replying. My doc found out about the stones about 2 months ago. And he said if I'm not having any issues with it, that it can stay in until my WLS. The issues started about a month ago, and I still think it's just a dull pain in my eyes. It will get sharp then die down again. My biggest thing is the time off work. I don't make much lol, 260+ each week. I would have to save up money to be off work then be able to pay 10% my insurance don't pay before I have WLS. All bills have to be paid before the surgery. It's just another bump in the road. I'm sorry you had to have 3 surgeries at once. That had to be tough, but like you said. I rather get the all done at once.
