"May your choices reflect your hopes and not your fears."
I didn't seriously start excersizing, and that's just walking on a treadmill until around 3.5 months out. I had a long recovery and post op issues though.
If you're getting around your house ok, I feel you should be fine or now.
Congrats!
I think moving after surgery is a great idea to prevent blood clots, relieve gas,and to start building up your body, but I have my own pet peeve about the big exercise push right after Gastric Bypass surgery.
It seems like ignorance of the obese trickles down to this area of our recovery process. By this I mean, when I had other surgeries in my life such as; gall bladder out years before surgery, tumor removed from my abdomen, tonsils/adenoids out as an adult, hysterectomy, both wrist operated on, or even oral surgery, NO one ever wanted me to trot around with the exception of small walks to prevent blood clots. It was known by everyone, including the medical professionals that I was in pain, had just been through a physical ordeal, and needed time to get back in the swing of things as I felt up to it. With WLS, it was more like, recovery is secondary, and if you're not in an exercise program immediately, you're slacking which is of course why we got fat anyway right?...Wrong!
I'm not opposed to exercise, and enjoy moving. My job requires a lot of walking, so I optimize on that, and I worked my way up from using the elevator to use the stairs starting with one floor at a time. I take pleasure walks, and swim when I have free time. I park far away when shopping, dance (with the curtains closed) in my living room, and use small weights to do repetitive exercises when talking on the phone. I have access to a gym, but haven't been able to extend my day past 24 hrs, so they'll have to spin without me for now.
I did not go out for walks 3 times a day when I came home from the hospital. Lets face it, I wasn't able to do it before surgery, so I wasn't about to do it with an 8 in*****ision in my abdomen. I've upped the challenges as I feel stronger and better, which I think is more maintainable for me, and I think I've done well so far and am continuing to lose.
