OT - being green

If my living room stuff wasn't all controlled by a wall switch, I would totally have it all on a power strip so I could just flip that off.
[edit: Actusally I just went and checked my last bill. It was only $111. So not too shabby at all.]

I watched this amazing documentary a year or so ago about the depletion of earth's water resources. It scared the hell out of me. The raw statistics are so crazy. We always think of water as being a limitless resource, but it's not. And it's vanishing. So water conservation is a really important cause for me.

I know it makes no sense and it's totally in my head. I've recently started using cloth wipes instead of toilet paper for things that aren't messy, and so I have a plastic tub of cloth wipes that have pee on them under my bathroom sink, and that doesn't gross me out at all. But letting it mellow? For some reason that seems icky.

As for the ick factor of letting it mellow, eh, we all find ick in different things. My aversion to reusable cups and thermoses probably seems weird to some people. It doesn't even make sense to me. I can drink flavored beverages out of them, but no****er. Water has to come in a new, unopened bottle. Can I put tap water into a reusable cup and add Crystal Light to it? Absolutely. But I couldn't drink it plain. Strange, I know.

And I know this is completely silly, but it's fun having "toilet paper" with different colorful prints on them.

I thought it would be fun to cut up my daughter's receiving blankets (she has lots) and use those. They're soft flannel and have cute prints.
You might just have a "family cloth" convert. The idea always appealed to me, I'm not sure why I never got around to doing it. Especially since I'm the only toilet-using female in the house, it wouldn't create much laundry.
