Oh, I forgot my explosive diarrhea two days post op!  That would have been AWFUL if I hadn't been at home.  It was bad enough at home, since twice I was unable to get to the bathroom in time even though my bathroom is not far from my couch where I was sitting.  What a mess.  And how embarrassing if that had happened out in public.

Oh yes Kelly, I had sheets down on my recliner and didn't make it to the bathroom several times.  What a mess.  I didn't even try to pass gas after that without being on the pot.  Jane

I just had surgery on Monday.  I came home on Tuesday.  Today I am just getting my sea legs. I can walk around the house 1/10 of mile at a time but I am exhausted afterward.  I am still very sore. It is difficult just to get up from lying on the bed.  I have had explosive bathroom issues today and a low grade fever. Also today is the third day and my body is flushing fluids from the surgery as well as my intake.  I have to pee about every  30 minutes.  Also, you need to focus totally on your recovery. Listen to your body and respond in kind!  Two to three days after major surgery is not a time to push yourself.  Either postpone your surgery or your conference.

no way could i have done it, i was in a LOT of pain. plus the huge drinking and protein requirements i wouldn't want to have to do that at a conference.

If the conference is important I would schedule surgery after it.

I sure wouldn't chance it.  There are just too many unknown variables.  Will you have any complications or such.  The first bowel movements are quite gassy and kind of nasty really.  Do you have to travel away for the conference?  You really should stay within a reasonable distance of the hospital you have your surgery in, if at all possible.   I had my surgery on Wednesday morning and then didn't get out until Saturday afternoon, just because I had a bleeder inside the pouch or somewhere.  It was really a minor complication but still was quite nasty passing blood.  I wouldn't have wanted to be at a conference with such things going on.

I agree with the others that you would really be pushing it, even without any MINOR complications like nausea, and many (of nmot most) people have really loud gas rumbling for a few days after surgery.  Often loud enough to be heard across the room.

I would delay surgery.

I just had my surgery on Wednesday 6/6 and I was not able to be released until Saturday. I was scheduled to fly out for a conference today Wednesday 6/13 which I had to cancel because I'm still in some pain and tire easily. Two days would definitely have been too soon for me.
