I get to go on vacation!

My sister called me this morning, all excited, and asked if I would like to go on an all expense paid trip to the beach.  Of course, I said, yeah!  Who wouldn't?

My sister's oldest son is a Marine, stationed in North Carolina.  She had been wishing she could go visit him this summer but did not think she would be able to afford it.  However, she just received a large sum of money from Child Support.  One of her sons is now living with his father, who typically works little if at all and does not pay his child support.  He owes her more than $50,000 right  now.  However, apparently he decided to file his income taxes last year.  He usually does not bother to file.  Of course, he usually has no income.  But we figure someone must have told him he would qualify for a tax credit since he now has custody of his son.  So he filed, but because he is behind in his child support payments, he didn't get the money.  My sister did.

So she is going to use it to visit her other son in North Carolina and invited me to go with her.  She will pay for pretty much everything.  I am excited!  Now I am trying to figure out how to pack enough food to make sure I have good stuff to eat for a week.

I love 10 minutes from the base. If you would like, I can point you in the right direction for seafood and the best stores for the stuff you like to snack on. I have some vanilla almond quest bars that I really don't need to be eating (they make me dump). I could give them to you when you come and then you would not have to pack so much. Just a suggestion.

That's be cool.  I don't eat meat so no seafood for me but you could tell me if there are any neat restaurants around.  If you want, we could meet and have lunch or something one day, maybe.

I have to check and see if there will be a fridge in the hotel room.  It's a hotel on base which is very reasonably priced.  But if not, I may just get a small cooler and ice and keep stuff in there.  Probably all I'll need to buy is some yogurt and maybe some cheese.  I figured I'd take some soy milk and nuts and protein bars, but I can buy those here and pack them to take with me.  I just don't wanna end up eating a ton of carbs while I'm there.

It is easy to over do the carbs. If the hotel does not have a fridge I have an electric cooler you could borrow. Lunch would be great! I have friends who are vegetarian and I know where they like to eat.

Wonderful, that will be fun!

It's always really easy for me to overdo the carbs on a road trip.  When you stop somewhere for gas or visit the hotel vending machine, most of what you see is carbs.  I wouldn't even be that worried about going off my plan for a few days, but I  don't want to deal with the low blood sugar that follows a carb fest for me these days.
