OT- today's update on Cayenne

There's not much to report.  I just spoke to the vet.  He said she looks a bit "brighter" and is moving around more.  Her blood sugar was very high this morning and he increased her insulin.  We had her diabetes pretty well controlled, she was on only a very small dose of insulin once a day, but that was with her eating a carefully planned diet.  Now she's not eating.

She is still refuses to eat on her own.  They have been feeding her with a syringe and she eats what they put in her mouth.  But she won't eat on her own.  The vet wants me and my partner to visit her tomorrow, which we were planning to do anyway, but he said to bring whatever she really, really likes to eat and see if she will eat for us.  I'm going to take her favorite kitty treats and some yogurt.  Maybe something else, I don't know what.

The truth is, this cat normally likes almost everything.  She won't eat peanut butter, which I mention because one of my other cats loves peanut butter.  But Cayenne likes any kind of meat, all the  Morningstar Farms fake meat products, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, milk, butter, spaghetti sauce, noodles, rice, salad dressing, any veggies that are on a pizza, bread, potato chips, pretzels, crackers, hummus, tuna, sardines, raisins, iced tea... she ate a piece of onion once off a sandwich.  She does not get to eat all this stuff very often, she gets a nibble now and then, but she likes it all.  Plus every kind of cat food she's ever been served, dry or canned.

I can't imagine why she's still not eating.

Thanks for the update...  Maybe she will eat something you bring so that she can go home....  I know that when I'm in the hospital I don't eat that much, maybe Cayenne is like that as well...  Cleo and I are still wishing her a speedy recovery and praying for strength for you.

Perhaps with you there, she'll eat. I hope so.

Wow! Cayenne is a good eater. My true love Bratly liked cantaloupe, corn w/out butter, and broccoli; he came running whenever I cracked an egg. To this day, 10 years after his passing, I expect the cat to run in asking for a raw egg. Current kitty doesn't like anything except two kinds of Fancy Feast.

I'm thinking of you and Cayenne and hope you both will be comfortable and happy.

My Tigger was at the vets for a couple of days earlier this year.  I went to visit him and gave him all kinds of love, he relaxed for the 1st time since he was there.  The techs brought in 4 different foods and I was able to get him to eat quite a bit while I was there. My baby was just too scared to eat there, hopefully that is the same for your Cayenne.

((((hugs)))) to you both!

Sorry to hear she isn't eating.  When our cat got hurt he wouldn't eat when he got home, so I got some tuna and fed him - he loved tuna!  He didn't eat people food.  It took days for him to get better, me having to hand-feed him, and a couple trips to the vet to hydrate him.  I thought we might lose him, but he recovered and lived many more years and died at 21 years old in my arms at home.  So there is hope!  I'm thinking of you both.

Oh, wow, 21!  My vet seems to think Cayenne is elderly at almost 13.  He has referred to her as "geriatric."

13 geriatric?  No way!  I have seen a number of cats live to 21, and many of those were indoor/outdoor.

Try baby food... like the turkey or beef kind.

Baby food is a good idea.  I'll pick some up tomorrow before I go to see her.
