Poll re: reactive hypoglycemia
The only way to know for sure would be to test your blood sugar, but what happens if you have it is that an hour or two after you eat, your blood sugar drops a lot. You feel shaky and weak and maybe nauseous or dizzy or even confused. It's most likely to happen after you eat too many carbs. If you eat something with some carbs and some protein, like a protein bar or peanut butter crackers, the icky feeling should go away.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I'll be 2 years post op next month.
I have RH, it started around 6-7 months post op. I also dump which I found out very early out (sf pudding) my MIL gave me a kit so I could test my sugar. I was able to test it when I would get dizzy (RH) and when I felt nauseous (Dumping)
For me its usually controlled by diet, I think. It seems to come on in spurts, but most likely after something I shouldnt have eaten. I can go weeks without an episode and then go a couple days where I get them all the time. I try to always keep a bar on me in case.
Its not a big issue. I like that when it does start up, It keeps me in check...like dumping.

I suspect that I am getting it. It started with a couple of shaking episodes about 2 months ago (12 months post op). But I think it may be getting worse since I am really tired all the time, especially after eating carbs. It seems to be after I eat things like crackers or simple carbs. I have a doctor's appoint. this Friday so I will ask him about it.

Yes, I have RH. Self-diagnosed from experience.
I think I was over two years post op when it first began.
It is nearly ALWAYS attributable to food combinations that trigger a sugar crash. I eat every four hours or so to keep my sugar levels on an even keel.
****Special note**** I am an insulin dependent diabetic. Yes, over six years post op and still medicated. I have excellent control most of the time. I have an extra layer of caution to avoid RH possible episodes since I am medicated and it is a delicate balance anyway.
It isn't a primary focus of my life because I don't gamble with my food choices very much. I have had some serious falls recently and am cutting back on medication. So it isn't a big issue in frequency but it is a big issue in effect, so I am very careful.

If so, how far post op were you when it started? It started at about 1 year out. I have not been officially diagnosed with it but I have all the systems stated above. It happens to me about once a month. (I am currently just short of 2 years out from surgery).
Is it easily controlled with diet? I never know when it is going to happen, so no. It can get triggered from too many carbs one day but not the next.
How big of an issue is it for you? It is worry-some, but as long as I have a protein bar with me at all times, I am safe. It is a horrible feeling since you feel so out of control when it happens.
And if you don't have RH, please respond and let us know that. I don't only want to hear from those that have it!

I guess I attributed my symptoms to dumping but Im thinking after reading a bit here that I sometimes have RH issues. I believe I had this before surgery as well and seems to go along with what Im eating. I seem to get the dizzy, shaky episodes if I eat a carby meal with little to no protein. Dumping with nausea, sweating and palpitations with high sugar.
This seemed to start for me around the 7-8 month mark. If im careful in how I eat and make sure to have protein first I dont get it. Its not that large an issue if im eating protein first.
