OT- ideas for a "staycation"
That would be fun. It reminds me of many years ago when I lived with my grandparents, who rarely used their air conditioner even when it was boiling hot in the summer. They had a brick house and it just held in the heat. It would be so hot at night I couldn't sleep and I would take a sleeping bag out in the yard and sleep outside. My cat thought it was great fun and always curled with me out there.

All my vacations are "staycations." Wish I had the discretionary funds to travel; maybe sometime in the future. Anyway, here are some of the things I do to entertain myself:
1. Find a new place to hike/walk, usually trails, but sometimes I will just go to a local town that I know of, but don't spend time in, and just walk the streets, looking at the neighborhood homes/businesses.
2. On that same vein, going to a historical society (or even a library) in a neighboring town can be fun.
3. Experimental cooking.
4. Wandering through a plant nursery (I never buy anything, but I do like to see the different varieties of flowers/trees that are available).
5. Dressing in my bathing suit and reading in the sun on a towel.
6. Purging a room or area in my house. I love to get rid of things, so I will take an area and focus on organizing/ridding myself of unnecessary items. Always makes me feel accomplished.
7. Used bookstore wanderings. The only problem with this, is my instinct to spend is at its highest, so I try not to do this often.
8. Exploring back roads
9. Photography days: I usually couple this with a new town or new trail exploration, but going out to take pics with a theme in mind: abandoned buildings, old barns, birds, macro shots, etc., and then experimenting with the finished shots in a photo editor program (I use the free program Picasa).
Not sure if any of those ideas appeal to you, but those are some of the things I enjoy doing.
I've never done it, but I have heard from others that geocaching can be fun.
