Check with your weight loss team (doctor, physician's assistant, NUT). Every doctor is different. My doctor allows pop if you let it flatten a bit which I don't have a problem doing with A&W Diet Root Beer. I have issues drinking water so I have to have something to drink!

Ginger ale will not harm your pouch.

i was told to give up drinking any kind of pop because of the carbonation it expands your pouch, so i gave it all up any kind of drink with carbonation.

Carbonation cannot expand your pouch.  How could it?  There is an opening at the top of the pouch and another opening at the bottom of the pouch.  Liquid doesn't stay in the pouch, it runs right out into the small intestine.  And with two openings, there is no way for gas to build up enough in the pouch to stretch it.

my surgeon and dietician wouldn't of said it , if it wasn't true. they know  if  you don't believe them talk to your own surgeon it's been proven.

I have talked to my surgeon.  The surgeon that did my RNY said it would stretch the pouch.  When he closed his practice, the surgeon I switched to said it cannot stretch the pouch.

It hasn't been proven.  If you think it has, please point me to your evidence.  Can you show me a study or an article in a reputable medical journal that says it will stretch the pouch?

It's not true.  I don't believe your surgeon and dietician because basic anatomy and physiology tells me it's not possible for any liquid to stretch your pouch, carbonated or not.  You, of course, are free to believe whatever you like and certainly you do not have to drink any carbonated beverages if you prefer not to.

oh well kelly i'm not here to argue , i 've had more than 3 doctors say the same thing but it's up to you what you want to drink with your pouch i'm not willing to risk  destroying  the size of my pouch i would rather protect my pouch plus any kind of carbonated drink is not a real food and drinking any kind of pop is something everyone should'nt be drinking  and most people know  pepsi and every other kind of carbonated pop is garbage. most healthy people don't even touch that stuff.

I didn't say soda was healthy.

I'm not here to argue, either.  You said it had been proven that carbonated drinks can stretch the pouch and I asked if you could direct me to that proof.  If you can't, that's fine.

Many of us HAVE talked to our surgeons about this issue.  Although i understand you wanting to believe that your surgeon wouldn't tell you something that is not true, I would tell you to ask your surgeon to SHOW you the "proof" that  carbonation stretches the pouch.  He will not because he cannot.  That would defy the laws of physics which are immutable.

It is a scare tactic, plain and simple. I am not saying that people SHOULD drink soda,  just that the pouch stretching is nonsense.
