OT - I think my cat is constipated!

Well, we do talk about poop here a lot, don't we?

My kitty seems to be feeling much better the last couple of days.  She is eating like a little pig and seems pretty energetic.  But now I think she is constipated.  Earlier today she had a little piece of poop stuck in her fur, which happens sometimes with cats that have long hair, but I hadn't seen her poop anywhere.  It was like all she got out was that little tiny piece.  Just now, she was sitting on the couch next to  me, and all of a sudden she looked like she was pooping.  Occasionally she poops outside of the litter box, but not usually on the couch, so I was not happy that it looked like she was pooping on my couch.  Only after a couple minutes, she walked away, and I saw that she hadn't pooped.  But it looked like she was trying to.  Like she was trying to but couldn't.

What on earth does one do for a constipated cat?  Good grief.  She goes back to the vet tomorrow to get her blood sugar checked and stuff, so we'll ask the vet about it.  I imagine he can palpate her belly and tell if she has a lot of stool in there.  But gee whiz....

Poor little Cheyenne. She just can't catch a break. Hopefully the vet will be able to get her moving again, if she is indeed constipated.

I  know!  I guess it could be because she was so dehydrated for a while.  Poor baby.  I know how miserable I am when I can't go!

how about some cod-liver-oil? Or other fish oils? something she will find tasty and will lubricate her a bit?

Yeah, I could do that.  I don't have any on hand now so I guess I'll wait until we see the vet in the morning, but if he thinks that would help, I'll pick some up then.

Oooh, I might have some hair ball remedy stuff somewhere that might help, though.  I'll have to go look.

even vitamins or oil pills for people, you can open one with a pin and let her lick it. Often it's a matter of getting some in. Even if you have a treat that she likes, tuna with oil (I know, you're a vegetarian).... there's stuff she might like mixed with food she enjoys. Even some vegetable oil or EVOO might work for her. Though I'm sure a fish oil might be yummier and more geared for cat-anatomy.

I tried putting flax seed oil in her food once, when she had dry itchy skin.  She didn't like it and wouldn't eat it.  I bet she'd eat fish oil, though.  But I'll have to go buy some.

I try to always have a can of tuna in oil in my cupboards for cat-emergencies. They like it. You might try a couple of things she likes with a couple of oils if you have a variety

I also put oils or things I want cats to lick on their fur. If fastidious and a "licker" then the cat will lick it off regardless of taste (they do, after all, use their tongues on their bums!)

My little boy is back from the vet  drunk as can be and wondering WHAT happend to his little boy parts.

When my kitty was very sick with cancer, he was also very backed up... so I mixed in some miralax in his cat food and it helped him go.

vet recommended this.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Well, I have plenty of Miralax on hand!  I'll ask the vet what he recommends tomorrow and see what he thinks of Miralax and how much he recommends using.
