My mom, sister, and I have movie and dinner night every Saturday and they want to go out to Mexican today.  What would some recommend for this during soft stage?   Maybe fajitas minus the wraps? Afraid to try the retried beans as they definitely won't be fat free so any ideas would really be great!

How about some posole or abondigas??? Both are diffrent types of soup. You will still have to smash up the chunks. But it will be tasty!!

How about a quesadilla? The cheese is protein you wouldn't be able to eat much of the tortilla (which is on my surgeon's approved foods list) I've had refried beans from a Mexican Restaurant without a problem as I only eat about a spoonful or so, so again more protein.

 Guacamole!
If there's a restaurant that makes healthy, fresh food, choose that one. Chipotle offers healthy choices. El Torito, which I think is a big chain, can make guacamole to order right at your table, and it's delish.

What's the problem with the beans not being fat free? You aren't absorbing most of the fat. You might do a bite test first to make sure they don't make you ill, but they really are your best bet.

But fajita meat is NOT soft food. If you are supposed to be on soft foods, a soft cooked fish would work well (although I've never seen that in a Mexican restaurant), refried beans, the insides of a chile rellenos maybe, salsa and guacamole. Anything else is too firm.

Thanks guys!   I'll stick with stealing some of their refried beans. :)

MMMM....  I did queso today when I went out with my Mom and sister for Mom's birthday....

I measured out my "allowance" and gave the rest to my Mom and sister and we all had a good ole time!

Hi,
I am mexican.
Ask for the "sopa de tortilla" ask them to bring everything except the tortilla or caldo de pollo.

You could also ask for the shakes.  Made with natural fruit and milk. (protein)

Thanks all for the suggestions! Had almost a fourth of a quesadilla and a couple tablespoons of refried beans. My first foray to eating out since surgery! Woohoo! Lol, it's the little things in life.

Beans and rice are ok, if you really chew the fahita meat ok. Take time between bites and let your pouch tell you if it's ok. Chicken is generaly more tender than beef. But that is not an absolute.
