I had gallbladder surgery on Monday and I have this odd pain. I notice it comes more when I sit down or lay down. Which is making it hard to sleep. It is right above my ribcage. I know it's not gas, I was able to get rid of all of that on Monday. Anyone have any ideas? I did have my surgery done lapo.

Call your surgeon-on-call and explain the pain to him/her. that is the only opinion that should matter to a new post-op. Good luck.

Call him/her NOW

They don't have anyone that is on call. They aren't back in til monday. I talked to my uncle, he is a nurse and he doesn't know what it could be either.

You're sure they don't have an emergency number? Even when I get relatively routine injections I get a phone number to call in teh case of something weird going on. Are you sure they didn't have a phone number to call on your discharge papers?

If you spike a fever, have trouble breathing, or your pain is very high, don't mess around go to urgent care.

When you say abovve your ribs, do you mean on your flesh outside the rib cage? or ???

No they don't have any number at all. I have tryed. My pain isn't high until it spikes, then it dies down. I would say it's more inside. Under my brest bone to where my ribcage  is.

Okay second question... when you say "I know it's not gas, I got rid of that"

What does this mean?

The "gas" pain from laproscopic surgery is that they inflate your insides with a gas. if that gas is not expelled, you will experience pain (often shoulder pain) while the gas particles dissipate out of your system. This is not burping or flatulence, this is pain from a literal thing that is in your abdominal cavity. Gas rises, so you feel it often in your shoulder as it rises to your diaphragm and as it irritates your diaphragm the pain goes to the shoulders. So when you say above your ribs.... do you mean your shoulder or the flesh literally resting over your rib cage or....?

Its close to where my upper cut is. When laying down it feels like someone is sitting on my chest. I have no pain in my shoulders at all.

If it's flesh pain, it's .... well .... flesh pain. They did stab you, you know. (I've seen film.... it is a LOT like being actuallly stabbed) *shudder*

If it's not sharp, and your breathing is free and clear and you aren't spiking a fever, you're probably okay

But disclaimer... I'm a geometry teacher. Take my word for what it's worth.... and if youre doubting at all... go to the ER. Better to spend a few bucks than to die

have you called the number for your doctor's office, usually they have a message and at the end of the message they say "hold the line for the answering service" and then the answering service will contact a doctor on call.

I had pain from the top of the breastbone out to the shoulder on my left side after GB surgery... this gas pain lasted SIX WEEKS

I walked a lot after every other Lap surgery (4 others) and never had the gas pain last long. Have you done much walking?
