Beef, post surgery

So, I'm trying to figure out what I can and can't eat post RNY.

I know that many have trouble digesting beef - especially early on, but is beef a viable option?  I know fatty cuts aren't obviously a good choice.  But how about a lean roast or even a meatloaf (my mom made a killer one with lean beef, onions, tomato sauce, and some rice and cheese.

I can eat meatloaf, hamburger patties, roast beef, canned pot roast ( much better than it sounds) canned chicken, any lunch meat, chicken breast cooked tender.
I can eat just about anything, veggies, salads, fruits

Wow, and you aren't that far out!  That's awesome.

I've read a couple of posts in the past couple of days about people getting a bit down because of the lack of variety they can eat, and that made me worried - I like to enjoy food (then again, that might be the root cause of the issue!).

I will first say that I am one of the people who had very little trouble eating post-op and only had a handful of foods that made me ill.  I had no trouble with sirloin and filet mignon when I was allowed to add beef, but I had problems chewing other cuts of beef (including ground beef and even pot roast) and it sat very heavily in my pouch if it was not well chewed.  Meatloaf was ok for me, but I stopped adding the breadcrumbs that my recipe called for (and you would probably want to eliminate the rice).

i had ground beef (97% fat free) on my soft food plan - i ate it around 3-4 weeks out. i mixed it with something, usually sugar free bbq sauce or fat free sour cream. i never had an issue and it was on my approved food list

Where do you get sugar free bbq sauce?  I've been looking for it!!! I haven't had much trouble with beef... just have to chew it up really good.

Great information everyone!  I figure with surgery a little less than 2 months out I want to start doing more practicing and eliminating foods I won't be able to eat post surgery.

I've been practicing somewhat for the last six months, but figure it is now time to put it into high gear.

i can eat hamberger in the form of patties but not in casseroles or tacos things like that i use ground turkey and not the breast either i uuse the one that has thigh meat in it too and it goes down really well for me ..as for steaks i can only eat rib eye or filet migeon it has to be very tender ..and i dont touch chicken breast unless it has been in the crockpot ...had a bad expereince with getting it stuck and its was very painful!and roasts only prime rib !! pork goes pretty good too! good luck all u can do is try things and see how it goes  ..everyone is different!

Beef is the only non-sea creature that my pouch loves 99% of the time. I actually opted for fattier cuts to begin with (you're malabsorbing a lot of fat in the beginning and moist is the important decider for a lot of meats). I tolerate Beef in perhaps 99 out of 100 times it's offered to me. Chicken is 50/50, pork is less likely. Tender pre-cooked turkey is usually okay, but sometimes iffy. But beef is generally always good and if it isn't, It's likely something I'd have rejected pre-op also.

I'd avoid the rice or pasta or starches until at goal for myself. No point in retarding my weight loss.

beef and chicken thighs are my mainstay go to foods that haven't bothered me. Other than roast beef from the deli I can hardly get any in and it just tastes blah.. it was my fave pre op.

I have found ribeye steak to be the easiest for me to eat esp. when I add garlic. I of course cut off the fatty parts but it seems softer and easier for me to chew up.
