Scared:-(
Hi y'all, I'm new to this site, but need some advice...I have been to seminar, first consultation, and now waiting on my appts...But my thing is that I'm scared of the complications that could happen or even death.......I have a fifteen year old son that just lost his father in 2010 and his grandmother in 2011....And wouldn't want to be next, but ideally need to do this for me......So please can someone give me some advice or there perspective on my situation .......THANK YOU
Stacy
All surgical procedures come with risks and death, that's why they make all the pre op tests to avoid as much risk as possible, but as my doctor said once: Think of all the risks and possibilities of death you have being obese and if you're not sick right now you will develop them later... You won't regret having bariatric surgery :)

Just think about how much more energy you will have for your son after surgery!! Talk with your surgeon about your fears. Once you know all the facts of surgery you will be comfortable about your choice.
Which complications scare you? Maybe we can help once we know what you are most afraid of. I just got home had surgery Thursday no regrets so happy I did this.
Weclome to our family :)

Thank you Grace, hope you don't mind me calling you Grace ....Well when I spoke to doctor Thursday, he said most deaths come from embolisms or lung problems.....Which I don't have lung issues that I know of, but I do have sleep apnea. He said that could be a problem also, but mostly my fear is that I could die from a bloodclot. But he also said that out of the 3500 hundred patients that come thru his office only 7 has passed.............Guess it could be that I know its a major surgery and everyone probably has moments.....
I was more afraid of the complications of morbid obesity, including death. I thought I had a better chance of surviving surgery.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
RNY on 07/30/12
I am preop, but have surgery scheduled on 30th...I began this journed 3 years ago...after I did the initial stuff, I backed out...I had a child still 13 and new grandson...my fears won out...this time however, I addressed my concerns with Dr Kuhn at our initial consultation and I straight up asked him about the death rate...I have no medical complications now , which helps, but he explained that I had a higher probability of dying from an appendectomy than from RNY...I truly felt relief after our visit....
