Tip for those with insomnia

Last night I took a benedryl, a soma (muscle relaxant), my normal bedtime meds (elevil) that knocks me out (or used to) and also a Norco. After an hour of trying to sleep, I took a Lunesta. I was asleep within minutes of taking the Lunesta at 11:30

I woke up at 2 am, and didn't sleep after that.

With 5 medicines that are supposed to put me to sleep, it still doesn't help.

I've come to the conclusion that my sleep; will be messed up until I return to work and start moving my body and mind.

 I hear ya guys!  I had been on benedryl for sleep and after about 2 weeks it just set me into irritation when I'd take it.  Doc didnt want to give me a covered sleep med for fear of addiction and he told me to "do more" during the day...that just set me into being so tired I couldnt sleep...went into nyquil but after a year of it and my sleep patterns still not working on their own my doc tried 10 days of Tenazipam...oh how I miss that medication...it was WONDERFUL but it's only a short term treatment.  After I finished the course of it I went right back to not sleeping.  I'm now on Trazodone which works okay... we'll see how long it works. I've stopped counting the hours I get or dont get as it just makes it worse!

I am going through a bad break up and my sleep as been awful.  Typically Lunesta works pretty well. but it  hasn't been doing the trick;

I saw the Doc on Friday and she gave me sublingul Klonipin and that really did the job 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

The past few weeks I have not been able to fall asleep. I was thinking it was because I slept so much the first few weeks after surgery. It has been bothering me that I can be up so late. I often fall asleep after 3 a.m. and get up early. I do sleep the full time I'm asleep and not waking up after 30 mins of sleep like I used to. I've tried Melatonin and I read until I find myself falling asleep with my book in my hand or watching TV until I dose of but once I turn off the light and settle down for sleep I wake up wide awake again. It's been so frustrating. I go back to work Tuesday and I am so afraid I won't be able to sleep and oversleep for work.  I thought it was ME but now I see it is possibly related to the surgery.

I had insomnia long before I had WLS.  I don't think they are related at all for me.

Some people DO have trouble sleeping after RNY, but note that Kelly, Lady Lithia, Christy, and I are all several years out so our issues are not specific to having had the surgery.

Did you get a nap this afternoon?  I ended up sleeping about 2.5 hours this afternoon, so that was nice.  I still feel tired, though.  I need some energy.  I have a mountain of dirty dishes in the sink.

 I napped for about an hour.  I have an appt with my PCP next week to ask him about the possibility of trying one of the benzodiazepines or maybe trazodone short term to break up the streaks of several days when none of the other meds help.

I was also prone to what I considered "serious chronic" insomnia prior to weight loss surgery.

Alas, now I can't sleep without help. And often I can't sleep WITH.
