Is the Lexapro an extended release med?  I know many antidepressants are and we do not absorb those fully.  It might come in a non-extended release version too, though.  I had to switch from Effexor XR to regular Effexor.  You just have to take it several times a day instead of once a day.

The Lexapro absorption shouldn't be lessened after RNY. It is not a time-release medication and it is absorbed in the lower intestine which remains unaffected by the bypass (my pharmacist checked it out for me when I started taking it). You may, however, be experiencing an increase in depression post-op and need a higher dose than before surgery.

It is available in a liquid form, though, so you could try that rather than changing antidepressants and having to deal with tapering down one and starting another.

Yes,Lora is correct. It's not a time released med,but I believe I am at the maximum dose. I am going to give it some time for all my hormones to settle down maybe. I heard its a pain to taper down to switch to another med. I've been on it for years now so I think my body has just become immune to it. I don't think the RNY has contributed to that since its not time released. I guess our meds just need to be switched now and then. I'll talk to my dr,but I'll wait until I'm further out to see if my hormones settle down. I'm menopausal age too!
