OT - things the cat drags in

A few days ago, my "roommate" asked me why there was a bad smell on our porch.  I said I had no idea, maybe it was the garbage, because we keep our trash cans next to our porch.  But they usually don't smell bad.  I mean, maybe if you stuck your head in one, it would smell, but I don't normally smell them when I walk in or out of the house.

Today I figured out what the bad smell is.  There is this little gap between the side of the porch and porch railing.  I was carrying in my groceries and saw a swarm of flies buzzing around there, so I took a closer look.

There is a dead mouse in that gap.  Which must have been there for several days at least.

I left it there for my "roommate" to take care of when he gets home.  See, we have an agreement.  I clean the litter boxes and he disposes of dead rodents that the cats bring home.  I think I have the better end of that deal.  The cats do poop much more often than they bring home rodents, but I would much rather scoop cat poop than pick up dead, smelly rodents (which are occasionally half-eaten).

Such a good kitty to bring you a prize.  I had one in the house and the cat found it and left just the head for me on my kitchen table.  I tried to act so happy and proud but I just wanted to vomit.

Yeah.  Usually she leaves them in the middle of the porch where they can't be missed.  Or tries to bring them in the house when I open the door to let her in.

This kitty does not usually eat them, though.  She just brings them home to me.  I used to have a kitty that would eat most of a mouse and leave me with just some of the guts.

 Good kitty!
I love the little predators.
Mouse heads and entrails on the table, not so much.

At least my kitties leave the heads and entrails on the floor.

You just reminded me of the reason I wanted cats to begin with.  Mice.  I haven't seen once since we brought the **** machines home.  Dead or alive.  Wouldn't surprise me if they were eating them whole.  Good kitties.

They do eat them whole sometimes.  It's gross.  I once saw one of my cats eating a bird and he ate the entire thing.  Feet, feathers, beak, bones, all of it.  It was so gross.  I made him stay outside for the rest of that day and the next because I thought for sure those feathers were gonna have to come back out and I didn't want him barfing up feathers on my carpet.  I mean, they can't digest those feathers, can they?  Ick.

Me and the cats are having a disagreement about them being outside cats.  I have the doggy door and they love going outside but then they come inside to poop.  I tried putting the litter box outside but that didn't stop them.  They like it better inside then outside.  I don't mind them inside but they are destructive little guys, aren't they?  I haven't had cats for a long time and I don't remember them being so high maintenance.  I remembered them being a lot more independent.  These guys are always in my face or on my lap, always wanting attention, always wanting to play, always wanting to play with the dogs.  When I try to sweep or vacuum they chase it around the house.  They are worse then kids.  They eat their weight in food every hour.  I buy more food for two cats then I do for four dogs.  And they eat the dogs food, too.  And when I eat the dogs sit there and silently beg with their eyes while the cats jump on my plate and help themselves.  No manners whatsover.  And the girl still tries to nurse on me.  I think an exterminator would have been cheaper.

Two of my cats prefer to poop outside but Cayenne likes to poop indoors.  I don't know why.

Cats really vary in how independent they are.  Mine can be pretty demanding when they want something, though.  Cayenne will climb in my lap and swipe at my hand if I am eating something she likes (which is almost everything), like she's trying to grab it out of my hand.  She gets pretty aggressive when someone has food that she wants.

Both my cats will take food out of my mouth if they can.  We are worried that they will figure out a way to kill us for our food.  We sleep with one eye open.  We've noticed them sharpening their claws into weapons.  I swore the other night they got on my computer after I went to bed and they were Googling "jugular vein quick death".
