Large pockets in the colon after losing lots of weight?

I believe im having gallbladder issues but this is another theory my surgeon has. He said losing alot of weight creates large folds in the colon and fecal matter could be getting stuck in there. Ive never heard of this before. Anybody else ever go through anything like this?

I've never heard of it and have had several friends who have had surgery.  I have to go every 3 years for a colonoscopy due to family history and my own issues with diverticulitis.Granted I just had surgery so it's all new for me.....but I will be interested if anyone else posts about this.

I would be very surprised if this happens (but I am not a doctor).  The only way I can think of that you would get folds along the colon would be if the colon itself had fat in it and had stretched out and then had loose areas for the fecal matter to accumulate in.  I have never heard/read of having fat INSIDE your intestines, though. Also, the colon has a slippery lining (which helps keep the stool from sticking to the walls of teh colon) and is surrounded by muscles (which help to propel the stool along and out) so it would have to be a pretty significantly sized fold to have stuff in it that was getting stuck and not propelled out with everything else.

Perhaps he is talking about fecal matter collecting in the cecum (the area where the small intestine and colon come together)??

I also don't understand why he would be thinking that a problem in the last portion of your intestinal tract would be mimicking gallbladder issues.

If it were me, I would ask the surgeon to explain further.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
