Got yours in?

I'm getting ready to take my second multi and third calcium in just a minute, and then I'll get my iron and C before bed.

So far I have been instructed by surgeron to take my 2 mulit's my calcium, and B12. How do we know if we should be taking additional vitamins? like c or d's?
I was instructed not to take iron.

Why were you instructed not to take iron?

We know if we need additional vitamins, like D3, based on our bloodwork.

Many people choose to take vitamin C with their iron, though, because it increases the absorption of iron.

They advised me no iron based on my pre op bloodwork that my iron levels were very high. She said any supplements could be too much and they would have to send me to a hematomogist. They said post op bloodwork they will revisit the issue. I cant remember what the number was she was so concerned with but i believe she said somewhere in the 300"s She had said if it was much closer to 500 I would need to go to the specalists for sure. They asked me tons of questions like what kinds of pans do i cook in, what kind of water system do I have etc.
So as far as the additional vitamins by post of bloodowork would tell?

OK, that makes sense with the iron.  Jus****ch your  numbers closely because you will almost certainly need to start taking iron at some point and you don't want to wait until it gets real low to start.

It's always a good idea to get a copy of your lab report so you can see the numbers for yourself.

Yes, your post op blood work will tell you if you need other vitamins.  If you haven't had your vitamin D checked, you might want to go ahead and do that soon because almost everyone needs D3, but there's no way to know how much except to get your level checked.

Perfect thank you. Yes my surgeons assistant I see said she was going to monitor this iron closely. she wanted to see what the levels were post op she had said she could makes changes in my instructions based on labs. I will be sure to get a copy. I see how important is it to be our own advocate!! Thanks Kelly!

I do my double multi, B-12 sublingual 1000 mg, Vita-lady tender d3-5 - 5000 iu, and 2- 60 mg Vita-lady tender irons right off the bat in the morning- then spread out 3 or 4 doses of calcium citrate (either 500 or 1000per dose - I know we can only absorb up to 600 mg at a time but I try to make a 3 dose day count sometimes) doing new 12 month labs tomorrow.
