I cringe when...
Someone tells me they are getting the lapband surgery. My husband's aunt just commented on my progress pics on facebook tonight saying she will be getting lapband next month. I couldn't bite my tongue & had to tell her to reconsider her options that lapband has so many complications. I hate feeling like I'm being bossy or telling someone to not do something that they want to do, but I can't stand by & let someone do something to their body that they more than likely will regret sometime in the future. I messaged her & gave her this link http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/4424079/How-many- of-us-have-had-to-need-to-be-revised-from-the/ & told her about this forum. She said she would look over all the information tomorrow & I really hope she changes her mind.

I had the lapband back in 04 and had to have it taken out a year and a half later. I tell EVERYONE who wants to have a band not to do it. To go ahead and have a different surgery. It was pure HELL. My current surgeon won't even do them anymore. I hope she reconsiders, but if not, it's her choice and all you can do is stand by her.

Oh I know the feeling. I had band in 09, removed in 11 and revised same day. I wish I had went the RNY route too.
Well I think the band will eventually fail the successful ones too, just don't know when is the question. There was this "successful" bandster who started having problems, had band removed and couldn't revise in the same day so I think she's revising sometime this month.
The successful bandsters are getting far fewer nowadays. My surgeon won't do them anymore.
Band is also known as crapband, noose around your stomach etc. Surgery-induced bulimia!
I am so happy crapband is out!
Keep talking her out of it.
Thanks

When I started this journey I was set on a band I did not want a bypass at all and when I went for my surgery consultation my doctor asked me if I was willing to go through all of this, to get a band would it be worth it to me to only lose 50 pounds because that is what the average woman loses with a lap band. I had over 100 pounds to lose and at that moment I realized I needed more.
I am so glad I chose RNY it has been the best decision I have ever made for myself and has completly changed my life is more ways than the weight loss it has made me nutritionaly aware, gave me the accountability and responsibility to control my own food intake and life style. I just love it!

I think giving her info and letting her make the personal choice was the BEST THING you could have done. My sister did the LapBand and from reading on here about how many people ended up doing the revision to RNY, I told her about it and all she said was "OH people are so negative....those people didn't follow the plan given too them.....and she went on & on) I figured, I did tell her to educate herself and in the end it was her decision. I think the RNY will be the best decision for me! I figure I will be there for her no matter what results she gets. As I am sure she will be there for me.
