I came down with a head/upper chest cold last Thursday. I have been taking Airborne two times per day in addition to my vitamins listed below. The problem is that I have to go to a conference and fly out on Sunday. Any ideas as to what to take to help clear this up prior to flying.  I haven't had a cold in about 5 years, so no idea as to what to try.

Vitamins:
Calcium 600 mg three times per day
Folic acid 800 two times per day
Magnesium Citrate 225 mg two times per day
Biotin 2000 daily
Multivitamin two times per day
Vitamin D 5000 daily
Vitamin B12 subl 2500 every other day
B Complex daily
Vit C 500 mg daily

Prescriptions:
Methotrexate 25 mg weekly
Medrol 2 mg daily

It might be worth it to call your doctor and see if you can get a prescription for a z-pack (azithromycin). It's a five day course of medication that generally clears up those really nasty colds. Granted, it's an antibiotic so it won't be effective if whatever you have is viral.

Also if you do start taking it, make sure you eat something with it. It can cause some nausea. Good luck, I hope you feel better before your flight!

The problem is that so far it is viral....Everything that I'm coughing up or blowing out is clear.

I don't get sick often but find that Day Quil (the caplets, if you can find them, but the gel caps work ok too for us) and Mucinex work well. The combination will get you through!

As for a z-pack - be a bit careful there. One of the side effects can be diarrhea. Yes. Take my word for it.
