Yes they are giving you the runaround, either should be able to order them.  My surgeon ordered mine; PCP had ordered an ultrasound that showed polyps.  You'll have to go to a hospital that has nuclear medicine probably to have it done.

I hope you get answers, if not go to the ER again and demand something happens soon.  I feel for you.

Well, it also depends on whether or not they have priveledges to order that test at the facility as well.  At my facility each physician has certain things they can and cannot do/order...

A doctor does not have to have privileges at a facility to order a test that will be done at that facility.  A physician must have privileges at a facility in order to treat patients at that facility.  But a doctor can write an order for a test and the patient can take that order to any facility they wish.  For instance, my bariatric surgeon wrote an order for my abdominal ultrasound and I went to my local hospital to have it done, which is three hours away from my surgeon's office.  He does not have privileges there.  My back specialist wrote an order for an MRI which I took to my local hospital to have done.  He does not have privileges there, either.

If you having gallbladder issue see a GI doctor. That doctor can order the tests to have you diagnosed, then refer you back to the surgeon to have it removed. However, the surgeon should also be able to order it as well. Want a clear answer though - call your insurance company.

Strange... I was told that My surgeon could order mine.   I di dnot needed that. I got liver - GB scan - and it was determined taht the GB was inflamed - and had most likley sludge (not stones) no hida scan was needed.
And I think most PCP can order those.

Maybe it is your insurance ? or they do not want the responsibilities?  I knwo my surgeon routinely takes out (if needed) the GB so he order the tests and then follows that.

O honey...
I had 2 hernias. And both times CT scan were perfect. But based on symtoms I had surgerya dn they found hernia and fix it.  Yeap - 2 separate surgeries and in both cases multliple C-scans show nothing.
