Trying to get my Exercise groove on....

I am 10 weeks out from surgery....and I really am ready to exercise....walked around the long block at my house yesterday and it was 30 mins straight...(yes I was proud) but I get really sore and stiff once I sit down.   Today is a little better but I am still walking like I'm in pain....went to my Mom's and got in the pool for an hour and did some exercises to try and loosen up....I just can't get to my Mom's everday...she's 45 mins away and I usally have more than one reason when I go to town.  All this to say,  what exercises did you start out with?

I think I'm going to do my Just Dance Wii tape today....I can beat my son on that one! lol  I have my 3 month visit at the end of the month and I'd like to be in the 320's when I go.   I know once I get down some more, the walking will be easier.  I've been invited to walk in a 5k with a friend of mine Sept 22 and I'm not nearly ready for that!

Also considering going to a shoe store in town that will do a foot analysis and tell you what shoe best fits for your feet and walking.   The sketchers I have just aren't cutting it.  My knees, feet and ankles are screaming! :)

Any ideas for exercise that you may be doing or started out with??

Thanks! Sorry I'm so long winded....

Have a great day!

Sherry

When I first started exercising, it really helped to soak in a hot tub as soon as I was finished.

Walking is great of course and so is biking great for legs. It won't be easy but it is possible. A good real bike store can help you with a bike that fits you best. Also with adjusting seat and bars (if it is not adjusted then it will be painful).
There are tons of videos from this company with something for everybody.

You don't have to follow their plan just use it for their work-out

Good shoes are a must - I've had Skechers for casual wear but not for exercising. You'd also be amazed at the difference socks make - yes, I buy special socks for that. Sometimes I even wear compression socks that go up to my knee to help with soreness later on.

have you looked into proper stretching after your exercise session? I've introduced yoga and it has changed my life. Just once a week, too! If I could add more, I'd be set!

Whoo hoo on the exercise, though...

Exercise. It does a body good.

Be happy.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (called DOMS on a lot of fitness sites) is really common when you first start exercising or switch to exercise you haven't done before. I felt immobile the day after my first set of dead lifts. Stick it out for a few days and I promise you that it will get better. I'd wager you could probably walk that 5k in 6 weeks if you can already do 30 minutes now. You will really, truly surprise yourself.

Good luck!

I can't do anything that puts too much stress on my joints because of a degenerative condition I have. The thing that works best for me (when I do it - which isn't often) is water aerobics at the Y. Gets your heart rate up with minimum wear on the joints. You're doing great!!
