Goal weight

How did you decide on your goal weight?
Was it a personal goal or doctor recommended?
Did you find you didn't like how you looked at goal, and lost more or gained back accordingly?

I'm just curious because the lowest I've ever been has been 150lbs. when I was 12, and getting to that weight would make me in a normal BMI range.

I made up a goal on absolutely no scientific reasoning. The lowest weight I can remember in high school was 174, so I decided 165 sounded like a good target. I am currently at 197.

My doctor will not give a goal weight. Won't even discuss it.

I have not hit 165 yet. I am going to have my body fat measured and I have decided that the goal I want to shoot for is 25%  or less body fat, which is a healthy number for a 39 year old woman. I don't know what weight that would put me at.

I'm not resting on my laurels, but I've already suceeded beyond what I imagined presurgery. So now it is time for me to make some new fitness goals and get crackin'.

The body fat percentage is a good goal. It's probably more accurate than an arbitrary number. ;) Good luck!

Interesting question! I picked a number within my healthy BMW range and, knowing that I will probably bounce after goal, one that I think I will be happy being a bit higher than. Also, I have a friend who is my height and around 160, and she looks great.

When I first had my band, I frequented the online support group ( now extinct, I think) Spotlight Health. We had a discussion like this in there one day, and what I remember from that is many people picked their high school weight as a goal. And my thought was, is that realistic? How many 40 year olds without a weight problem weight what they did in high school? So I think we should be kinder to ourselves when we pick a goal number. Now, if I can only follow my own advice!

The only person I know who probably weighs the same as in high school is one of my foster sisters. She'll be 47 in December, and looks amazing for having 4 kids. For her, it's about genetics and being very particular about what she eats. I don't think I've ever seen her "clean her plate".

I'm not shooting for her figure--we're completely different in how we carry our weight. She is very slender and taller at 5'8" while I'm cherubic and 5'5". LOL

I don't know what my real weight will end up being, but it's been on my mind for a very long time.

My surgeon never gave me a goal weight but when I went in last she said that she could see my easily getting to 150..I just selected a number that was in the healthy BMI range. I've set it to 145 for now but we'll see how i look/feel when I get there.

My surgeon said I could hope for a 100lb loss .....that was when I first met him and I was 310lbs... I am down to 292 and hoping for a bit more I would like to be 160-165 ...I am 5'11 and getting back to my high school weight  would be unrealistic ...I was 135.   So my doctor would be happy if I hit the 200lb mark ...but I would like more ...at 41year s old ....is it doable .....I guess we will see.
