My Story

Well here goes on 15APRIL12 my REFERRAL was sent in. 14MAY12 I went for the information session.  16MAY12 I met with DR SMITH.  Had my NUTRITION CLASS on 18MAY12.  I then went to the DIETITIAN and the SOCIAL WORKER on 23MAY12. Got my surgery date on 28MAY. 1JUNE I saw the NURSE.  On 24JULY12 I will have my PRE-OP and last appointment with the SURGEON.  Finally I will have SURGERY ON 20AUG12 at ST. JOE'S IN TORONTO 8AM.  I do all of my appointments out of HRRH.  So that is a bit of history about how my journey has progressed thus far .

I have been a "BIG GIRL" since I had my first child at 17 so my entire adult life I have been over weight.  It has slowed me down but more so since my 5Th child when in that winter I fell and broke my tail bone and the weight just piled on from there.  So my weight was steady at 235lbs and after my 5Th child I went up to 270 just before birth after I had her I dropped down to 240lbs.  I put on more weight after I broke my tailbone and went back up to 270lbs In late 2011 I was put on some medication and my weight ballooned to 310lbs  at my highest by early 2012 .  I had applied to have WLS with DR. JOFFE in 2005 back then there wasn't that many doctors doing weight loss surgery so I was placed on a 2YEAR wait list .......well when I was called I was pregnant  and was told to call back when I was ready well 4 years later and 2 babies I was ready only to find out that DR JOFFE had moved on to MEXICO and the process has changed so drastically.  So above is how I went through the process.  It was a lot of work but well worth it a lot of compromise and running around to appointments to get me to this point as quickly as possible.  I have waited along time for this and it is almost here.  I have started the pre -op diet early because I wasn't convinced it would work .......so I am not doing OPTIFAST as I have allergy to the aspartame.  So I am on a protein modified fast that gives me 109 grams of protein and I can add a shake that brings it up to 129 grams which I haven't done yet.....The diet is more than fair but requires a lot of pre planning weighing and measuring good practice in the long run I think by the time I get to surgery it will be second nature ....I haven't cheated not once even though I don't have to start until the 29JULY12 I want to make sure I have a good head start.  I have lost 9lbs  and it has been 6 days on this diet now I know it is probably water weight but I'll take it anyway.  This going to be for the long haul.  I will fill you in as things  progress  TTYL Jenn
