I work for a small family owned company.  We are all really close, and I work very closley with 3 other girls.  I really dont want to tell anyone about having the surgery, I feel its a personal decision and I really dont want to hear the good or the bad.  So has anyone gone back to work and DIDNT tell people how you lost the weight?  What do you tell them?

I am an RN and work with mostly women.  We are a tightknit group,  so i was open about my decision to have surgery.  I'm glad I was.  I found out two of my co-workers had RNYs years ago and one is just now starting the process.  It's like having a built in support group!  Because we are close, I didn't want them to worry that I was sick when I took a medical leave, especially when I would be coming back drastically smaller an continue to shrink.  I have no regrets.  So far everyone has been very supportive and not at all pushy.  No one has even asked me how much I have lost.  They are just excited to see that I am doing well and will be returning to work soon.  I could see if i worked in a different setting, not telling many people.  But nurses are always all up in each other's business.

I did not tell the people I work with.  I am 11 weeks out and people are just now asking me questions about how I am losing the weight.  I am telling them that I am eating a lot less, and mostly protien and exercising more. (which is all true)  I don't feel that it is anyone else's business that I had surgery.

I told one person and by the time I got back to work............everybody knew.  I didn't have to tell anybody else.  I don't make a point of not talking about or talk about it.

I told my boss but none of my coworkers. I'm planning to go back to work next week, and my arms are still pretty bruised from being in the hospital. I'm not sure what to say when/if someone asks. It's just private for me, and I don't want to tell most people. Maybe that feeling will change. We'll see!

I was off for the summer (educator) and went back to school after the surgery.  I did not tell my coworkers (other than my two closest friends, who are not gossips and who I wanted to know in case I had a health emergency at work).

When asked "how are you losing the weight," I sidestep the question and thank them for noticing.  I do not address it at all.  Other than one woman who persistently asked me the question (to which I finally stated that I was uncomfortable talking about my weight), everyone else realized I wasn't going to talk about it and stopped asking.

I havent otld anyone in my new department. I still work in the same hospital and others here know and it would be really easy for my new co workers to find out but so far no one suspects anything. They did ask me about the protein shakes because normal women don't drink them I just said that they help my hair, skin, and muscles and control my hunger and that seemed good enough. Its a personal choice to tell people you work with so don't feel obligated to tell them if you don't want to.

I told everyone who asked at work, including some of our clients. My RNY has been the best thing that has ever happened to me so I feel comfortable sharing. I hope that I may be able to influence others to look into WLS or look into general weight loss and healthy eating. It's not some big secret to me... I'll even lift up my shirt and show scars to a coworker who asks.

I only told my main bosses at work because they were worried something serious was going on when I requested FMLA. Although now 2 months out and down a total of 71 lbs everyone at work is noticing.  To the cashier in the Cafe I said I'm just eating healthy and working out.  To my coworkers I see everyday if they ask - I tell them.  No reason to hide the fact that you are WORKING your ass off and being successful.  I'm not embarrassed by my actions - this is saving my life and creating my future.

If you really don't feel comfortable telling people then just state you are working out and eating super healthy.

Our weightloss is kind of dramatic so for most it will seem strange that just working out and eating right is making us lose so much weight so you might get some skeptical looks. hahaha

Just do what you feel comfortable with. :)
