If you don't find OH helpful and supportive

why are you here?  Seriously, this confuses me.  Periodically people post about how everyone here is so mean and we're all bullies and then other people post saying oh yes, that's why I left.  But they didn't leave, or they wouldn't be here posting about leaving.  Personally, I find this place to be incredibly supportive and helpful and that's why I stick around.  But why do people that think most members are mean and bullies stick around?

I agree that OH is a great place for support. I think that people sometimes don't want to hear that what they are doing is wrong. They are hoping that coming here, someone will help justify their wrong-doings.

I can't thank the people here enough. I just broke a 2-3 month stall this past week with the help of a lot of vets and them telling me what they did to help the stall along. I have lost almost 5 pounds since that stall and probably would have gone insane without having this place to vent my frustrations, and to get advice on what to do.

I think it probably is a matter of people not hearing what they want to hear.  But good grief, do people really expect that if they post something like "I am two weeks post op and supposed to be on pureed food but I am tired of everything mushy.  If I chew up an Oreo really good, do you think that would be OK?" that people are gonna say "Oh yeah, that's a great idea.  You can do the same with Chips Ahoy!"

Right! There is support here, just not the sabotaging support some people are looking for.

I went to a facebook group and read the posts there  when I went to correct a vast amount of misinformation posted I was lambasted and called a bully.  The forum was mostly new post ops who were under the impression that everything their surgeon told them was the truth.  Flintstone vitamins, visalus shakes.   A 600 lb man was asking questions and I gave him info to at least consider the DS and whoa - I swear  they were ready to flog me because of course, "rny is the only procedure that is malabsorptive and restrictive". Seriously!?!

I thank the stars every day that I found OH.    There is no other forum to me that remotely compares to the wisdom and experience found on oh.  and my local board (the Ontario board) has been a wonderful source of friendship and encouragement.  And yes that may mean a reality check now and again!

Sounds like someone had a bad experience. In any group there will always be some people who are jerks or have problems being rude to others. NO internet group or board is without them. Not everyone is a good communicator, nor do they desire to be, at least on the interwebs. It's easier and probably more fun to assign blame, be judgmental, make assumptions, butt in where they don't belong, etc.

And some people are really sensitive. I wouldn't be on the internet at all I I left everytime someone got an attitude or was rude. We even have a name for those who're rude semi-professionally... trolls. But some aren't good at dealing with them.

I am kinda noticing that a lot of people who are taking offense are new post ops.... I am thinking it is hormonal. After a while I see those same people back and more able to handle themselves.

lol. good call!  Newly post op your emotions and mind are all over the place!

I myself kinda like it here.  Don't ask the questions if you don't want the blunt truth. Some people have a way of wording things that might seem insisitive, but this is the internet and tones are hard to read.

Anyways, to those who don't like it here, fair enough! Make a group of your own (there are also tons you can join) but for the most part the peeps here have been there and done that...AND have told countless newbees how its done and after the millionth time of repeating yourself you are bound to sigh and let something snarky slip...its human nature! And we are ALL humans :)

I think making these types of threads don't help at all. Send a PM or just let it slide I say. This is not the first type of thread like this someone has made in reply to another persons thread. Why not just reply in that thread? Why make a call-out thread?
