5 days post opt and no bowel movement

I didnt have my first until 8 days out, I think it was. And when I did, I wasn't constipated, thankfully. But to be safe, I took a dose of miralax every day after I got home. I'd suggest doing the same, especially of you have a history with constipation.
I hope things turn out well and soon. I definitely know what it's like to be miserable from that. :(

Anesthesia and pain pill notoriiously slow things down for all kinds of surgery. Add to it the fact that this surgery actually shuts down the digestive track and all you are taking in is liquid, it is NORMAL to go that long. Are you passing air at least? For me (TMI alert) everything is liquid, but its moving. Try not to worry and just keep doing what you are supposed to. The best way to get everything moving is to walk, walk, walk and drink your liquids.

I had constipation issues before and after surgery. My first BM was 6 days after and I had to use milk of magnesia to get that out. Ouch! I had to take a second dose the next day...double ouch! Prune juice did not work for me and I used it for over a week. Benefiber also didn't work after a week trial. I used Metamucil before surgery, but was afraid that it could obstruct my pouch since it thickens. After reading post on this forum, I decided to try Miralax, colace and magnesium oxide. It worked and I've been using it since! The best thing is, all are safe to use on a daily basis. There are stimulant laxatives that can cause bowel dependence if used long term, so avoid those.
