I am almost 12 years post op
I have not thrown up in those 12 years
Occasional dry heaves for 20 minutes or  better
I have yet to feel the fullness(that other people have described substernal pressure ,shoulder blade discomfort other than dry heaves that has been it)
Lost 80 pounds put back on 40
I cant tell anything was ever done other than obvious huge!! incision
I just don't understand "why"
Doctor in St Louis told me 2 yrs post op to consider it a failure
The only one food I have found that cannot tolerate whatsoever is regular pancake syrup and that is it
My first dumping episode and my last was 6 yrs ago

CONGRATS on the pregnancy!

I haven't had the need to upchuck except when I forget to chew well.  As soon as I swallow, I know what I've done and sure enough about 30 minutes later I'm bending over.  It always happens on the way home around the same spot.  I'd be home if I could hold it down for a couple more minutes and I do try.  The husband has to pull over, I open my door and bend over.  I was afraid to throw up because someone had told me it hurts really bad.  It's never hurt for stuck food but I've not had the experience from a virus.

I made the mistake of putting a bit of milk in my scrambled eggs  as I used to do pre-op and believe me, I threw up.  Not foam. Straight up vomit.  The eggs came right back up within a minute or two of me finishing.

I too, had an RNY, but back in 2003. I had met many people thru support groups, and knew a couple who threw up constantly , a few who threw up frequently, and several who threw up on occasion. I never met or knew anyone whu had my problem (and yes , it IS a problem!) of NOT being able to throwing up at ALL a GP doctor told me once, that my dr must have severed the nerve responsible for that process. But I've never had anyone cofirmed. Anyone else??

I have also had RNY on 4/4/04 and could expel fine before surgery but now no matter why i am sick i can not throw up. I know no one really likes to however if you are sick to your stomach and cant get rid of it, its like punishment.
