Food Logging...
Hi all,
Well I had my surgery on April 10th of this year and have lost a total of 80lbs (includes 25 pre-op)... So I feel terrific, no downsides to speak of which is great. I like to think that I am fairly intelligent and have a good amount of common sense. I've pretty much followed the plan with a cheat of a glass of wine once in a while (only 2x). Well I figured that at this point I have the menu thing pretty much nailed down...right? Wrong!
I stopped logging my intake, thinking "I'm doing good, I know what I'm eating, etc"
Well the dreaded hair-loss has begun and I thought...hmmm am I really getting in all that protein that I need? So I start to log everything that I consumed and I bet you can guess what happened.
I was only eating about 600 calories and about 40-50 grams of protein! Yes the fluids were good, great in fact so imagine my surprise!
Purpose of this topic? Just a reminder of how important logging EVERYTHING is! You may think you've got this whole thing, habits nailed down...but...for someone who is fairly early out I was kidding myself...don't make the same mistake.
As NIk likes to say...that is all!
Have a great day everyone!

You are doing great on your weight loss! Did the hair thing just start for you? I have noticed that mine started at about 9 weeks out. I have always had very fine hair but have really noticed more in the brush as of late :(
I am early out and try to make sure I track everything I eat - I am afraid if I don't something will go wrong
Keep up the good work 80# is awesome

Thanks!! Yes the hair thing is fairly recent. I've got fine, but thick hair so it's only noticable to me at the moment. I notice more after I shower. I have one of those thingy's that catch the hair so the drain doesn't clog and clean it right after each shower. I've noticed how much more is in the drain now than say last week. Like a LOT more so it may become noticable soon.
I was hoping I'd be one of the lucky ones who didn't really lose that much, but oh well, this too shall pass

I really agree with you about logging. I can not tell you how many times I thought I knew how many calories and protein some food had to log it and find out I was way off. It is also important to weigh and measure everything you eat. Eyeballing will not work, I can tell you. I cut a piece of meat or something else think that is about what I should have and almost always it is way too much. If I eat more of just about any solid food I barf so I am very careful, not that I mind barfing but then I lose the protein or food value of what I was eating and have to start over again later.
On the hair thing….Well what can I say, it has not bothered me at all. I have the same amount of hair now as I had before the surgery. I am completely bald… oh well been doing that from the time I was 19. You have had real good progress and keep up the good work and remember to log what you eat, not just now but it is your insurance policy even on maintenance.

Prior to surgery I used my fitness pal, then after surgery I didn't log at all, then I started using the log through here, but as of today I am back to using my fitness pal because I like having the app on my phone...
My life is so busy if I don't log at least once a day...I really don't remember what I ate so I make sure to log daily...It's great to be able to know exactly what the value of everything is and do a weekly (then monthly) tracking to see if over time something has changed. It especially important for protein tracking...at the six month point from labs I had to add whey protein to my daily yogart to boost my intake....it now shows my intake up by 20%...what great tools and resources we have available to help us in our new adventure!!
