I look bad????? (whips out hand mirror)

I can't control how the world sees the crazy Christian set. I can only be who I was made to be. That's what I do. If I look bad by association I guess I just gotta accept that...and wear more makeup.

Yeah, I skip those too.

I don't come here for religion...I come here to support and be supported in the "adventures in weight loss surgery".

But, like I said.........had to open this one since you started it, and you are one of my guilty pleasures!!

I skip the motivational bible quotes too. I wish they would stay in a religous side forum and not the main forum.

But at least the author is kind enough to clearly label them so those who wish to skip can easily do so and not feel like they've been tricked into reading something they disagree with.

MM, I am atheistic too and these two inspirational notes (well one is a poem) always make me smile. Just thought you might like them too:

"Here are some obvious things about the weather:
It's real.
You can't change it by wishing it away.
If it's dark and rainy it really is dark and rainy and you can't alter it.
It might be dark and rainy for two weeks in a row.
BUT
It will be sunny one day.
It isn't under one's control as to when the sun comes out, but come out it will.
One day.

It really is the same with one's moods, I think. The wrong approach is to believe that they are illusions. They are real. Depression, anxiety, listlessness -- these are as real as the weather -- AND EQUALLY NOT UNDER ONE'S CONTROL. Not one's fault.

BUT

They will pass: they really will."
-Stephen Fry

"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things."
-Mary Oliver

You know as I think about it, I actually live a lot by that first quote you gave, Neen.

I am religious but I understand that my life situation is a direct result of MY choices. There is no puppetmaster pulling strings of adversity just to make my life difficult (such an attitude is really self-centered). So when I have a string of bad events I usually say to myself "well, hell, eventually I have to hit bottom and from there, there's nowhere to go but up!"

Thanks for that. I think I'm gonna paste it.

Thank you for sharing.  Very true, and inspirational.

I feel like I've gained something positive from your post today, and I'll print this and put on my wall.

I think the first quote is particularly sweet because it's taken from a letter Stephen Fry wrote to a fan who sent him a letter about her battle with depression. He has struggled with bipolar disorder for years and has been a big inspiration to me. Those words remind me that when I'm "in the pit," eventually I'll figure out how to climb up and out again.

 Ah.

I thought it came from AA or another group --

... I recall seeing "This too, shall pass..." over and over in addiction type materlal.
