Y'all are killin me ! I'm a week out & you're making my staples jiggle.

My hospital stay was pretty good. I had an open procedure so when I came to in the recovery room; I was screaming for meds. Once they hooked up that lovely morphine pump I was aces.

I had the same trouble as Lora trying to get help to pee in the middle of the night. Thankfully the last person to put on my compression cuffs didn't do too slick of a job. I scootched my feet out of them & took off my monitors like I saw my nurses do, grabbed my IV stand & hauled bootay to the bathroom. Unfortunately, I forgot to UNPLUG the darn IV stand & it didn't quite reach the bathroom. So, when the nurse made it in; I had the IV pulled as tight as it would go, the stand in the middle of the room & the tubes pulled the rest of the way while I am perched on the toilet with my arm stretched out so I didn't pull the IV out. By God I had to go!

Nothing extraordinary happened with me. When I woke up the nurse kept asking me why I pulled out my IV. I hadn't buy apperantly I did it a few times before they realized that I was cold so I kept skidding my hands under myself to keep warm and in the process I'd pull out the IV. After that I remember walking a whole bunch. That's about it. Nothing amazing. I went home the following day.

I thought my hospital stay was something I remembered in vivid, full color detail.
I remember being in recovery thinking "I don't hurt at all but I have got to PEE" so I told the nurse "I need to pee"
She told me I Just had surgery, I was ok. I assured her I was not ok, I needed TO PEE. She told me again I'd had surgery and I had a catheter, just let it go. "Oh. Well when can I get one of those sponges for my lips?" She told me to push my button

I remember the guys wheeling me to my room because I concentrated on keeping my hands pressed to my abdomen. The only issue was going over the threshold of the elevator and that my bed was about *this* much smaller than the room door, so it was a rough entry.
Next thing I remember was waking and seeing my friend reading in the room chair. "hey" (had to be polite"
I went for a walk about 2hrs after getting to my room.... as soon as I was sober enough to use a walker with help.

That's what I remember.

When I got back to work, telling my friend about the adventure, she said "You walked sooner than that because you sent me a text"

No I didn't.

Yes, I did. She still had it. It went something like this
"hey i am k drunk as askunk and i wal^&d and beth is th3re and..." etc tec

I was in the hospital for 4 days...went from lap to open and had the abdominal incision.  It went fairly well.  It was painful - esp trying to sit up either in the chair or in bed.  The nurse's were very nice.  I'd rather have had some lift equipment used for moving me around so I wouldn't have to tighten my stomach muscles so much.  There was a lot available but nurses didn't use it at all.  I was still in pain when I got home for another week or so.  Finally stomach muscles started to calm down.

My first surgery went well and when my friend came to see me after I told her that she had to leave because there were "two of her".  I also kept calling the nurse to tell her to catch the cat in my room.  I am not sure why I thought there was a cat in the room but I was convinced there was.  My second surgery was a bit more difficult and I was more emotional.  I guess in recovery I told the nurse that I was mad at the surgeon.  I was told that other than that I was very funny in the recovery room but noone would elaberate.  I also made phone calls but I do not remember them.

Everything went  well for me.  My husband was waiting in my room when I woke up and he has since said that there was nothing unusual.  I had an open surgery to remove the band, gallbladder, cysts and then RNY.   I expected to be in horrible pain but I wasn't.   I didn't like  wearing the oxygen post op while in the hospital and kept taking it off in my sleep so the nurse would come and tell me that I needed to leave it on.  After the catheter was removed, it was a hassle to go to the restroom with the IV and such.  I was told to shower later that evening and usually love to shower but would have preferred to sleep.   I was disappointed that I didn't have a pain pump that friends had told me about but whatever I was given in the IV worked so there wasn't any pain.  I had pain patches to wear for a few days post op at home and that was the first time in years that my knees didn't hurt.  It certainly made walking easier.   Once the patches were gone the knee pain returned but I honestly didn't have much pain in the stomach area.  It was tender getting up and down and I couldn't sleep in my bed for a couple of weeks.  I think the band  type girdle helped a lot but I was glad to see it go. The whole process was much easier that I expected.

My first evening in the semi-private room - I thought I might be by myself- NOT! They wheeled in a kid from Jamaica Plain- suburb of Boston- with three gunshot wounds from a botched robbery/gang war. He spent the night professing his innocence and blaming the law enforcement community for his cir****tance. Then he proceeded to harass the nurse staff that the meds he was administered were not effective enough. The next day his homies showed up with fast food and had a very animated conversation about how they were going to get even with everyone involved. needless to say I couldn't wait to get the F out of there. Mass health paid for his stay...........
