Poll for those that don't take vitamins regularly

I'm curious about the reasons some people don't take vitamins regularly.  So, if you don't take them at all, or only take them sometimes, or take some of your vitamins but not all of them, I'd like to hear why?

Do you forget to take them?

Do you just not like taking them?

Do you think you don't really need them?

Do they make you nauseous or taste too bad to tolerate?

Are they too expensive?

And if you answer this poll, I promise not to yell at you here for not taking your vitamins!

I'm not post-op yet but all that I have been told is to take 2 chewable muti-vitamins today.  What else should I be looking for?  I don't want to go without if I need them.

Seriously, that's all you were told to take?  Oy.

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery says you need two adult multis a day, 1500-2000 mg calcium citrate a day, 54-63 mg iron if you menstruate, otherwise 36 mg iron, and B12 (sublingual 350-500 mg daily) or 1000 mcg injection monthly.

This is an interesting poll that you are taking since I didn't even think that vitamins were optional. I was told multiple times that I MUST take 2 multivitamins, the calcium citrate (I take 3 times daily), sublingual b12, abd vitamin D. If I didnt I would definitely get organ failure, osteoperosis,  and eventually could wind up dead. they drilled it into my head that if I had to choose between feeding my child and affording my vitamins, I should buy the vitamins. Thats a bit of an exaggeration but not much. I dont see how it can be viewed as optional since the whole point of RNY is to malabsorb nutrients so supplementation is required.

Well, almost anything in life is optional.  There are consquences to our choices, but they are our choices to make.  How is anyone going to force you to take your vitamins if you don't want to take them?

You know the results of this poll might be good for...I dunno...an article for a newsletter...if you so happened to write one...

I go through spurts of vitamin non-compliance. They usually happen if I am between inventories. Sometimes my money gets funny so I don't do auto-ship on vitamins and sometimes I run out before I have a chance to get more.

I am getting better with it. I personally have a "thing" about pills of any form (chewable or regular). Being the child of a former drug addict I think that's the stem of it. I don't take medicine unless it is do or die. I tend not to fill prescriptions and it took a LONG time to convince myself that I wanted to do vitamins even though I knew full well I needed to do them before I got surgery.

Any recommendations on what calcium is best? I want to go ahead and get a medication sorter and have this ready for next week.

Any brand of calcium citrate is fine.  Just no calcium carbonate or tricalcium phosphate.  If you want a chewable, you'll probably need to order it online.  But you can find generic calcium citrate tablets at any store that sells vitamins.

And why are you only taking one multi and one calcium pill and no B12?
