For those that need a vitamin schedule

Since 20% of folks that said they don't take their vitamins regularly said that was because they have trouble fitting them all in, I thought I'd repost my vitamin schedule information.

Here’s what I think is easiest:

Breakfast – multi, 500 mg calcium citrate, B12, B complex (if you take that), D3 (if you take that)

Lunch – 500 mg calcium citrate (you can take your D3 here too if you want to spread the pills out more and have less to take with breakfast)

Dinner – multi, 500 mg calcium citrate

Bedtime – iron, vitamin C

Yes, if you have iron in your multi and you take your multi with calcium, you won’t absorb that iron.  But if you’re taking iron at bedtime, that’s OK.

Your other option would be a schedule like this, if you do have iron in your multi and you want to absorb it:

Breakfast – multi, B12, B complex (if you take that), D3 (if you take that)

Lunch – 500 mg calcium citrate (you can take your D3 here too if you want to spread the pills out more and have less to take with breakfast)

Snack - 500 mg calcium citrate

Dinner – multi, iron, vitamin C

Bedtime – 500 mg calcium citrate

These schedules have you taking the vitamins recommended by the ASMBS, along with taking vitamin C with your iron because then you’ll absorb that iron better.  If you pair your vitamins up with meals, it gets easier to remember them, I think.  And it doesn’t matter if you sleep late or go to bed early or whatever, because it’s not a certain time of day you take them, it’s just whenever you eat breakfast or go to bed.

The B12 is become after RNY, we lack intrinsic factor in our pouch, which we need to help us absorb B12, and because part of the small intestine has been bypassed and that's where we absorb most of our B12.

The B complex has a bunch of different B vitamins in it and it's because we malabsorb vitamins since part of the small intestine has been bypassed.

The D3 is also because we malabsorb vitamins.  It needs to be D3 instead of D2 because D3 is absorbed much better.

Cool, thanks.

For anyone with an iphone (I don't know about droids), there's a free app I found that lets you schedule all your meds and gives you reminders.  It's called RxmindMe.  It is generally helping me remember everything!

Well, the ASMBS recommends a multi with 100% of the RDA of most things in it, and says to take two a day.

For B12 they recommend 350-500 mcg daily sublingual, or an injections of 1000 mcg once a month.  There is also a weekly nasal spray available.

For a B complex, you can do a B-50.

For iron, the ASMBS recommends 36 mg total per day for men.

For D3, the dose needs to be based on your labs.  What was your vitamin D level last time you had labs done?

Folks Please believe that you should always take your Vitamins and you can NEVER slack up... I did and got myself in a Fine Pickle as they say.  I almost bottomed out on my Iron which inturn effect alot of things with my health.  It is extremely hard to get it back to where it needs to be.  By no means a overnight feat!.
