TMI--yeast infections

I know it's TMI, but I've had recurring yeast infections. I never had one until right before surgery, and since then, I've had two more instances. It's getting very annoying, and troublesome. I have been taking a lactobacillus supplement, but I don't feel it's effective. I'll be heading back to my doctor's tomorrow, so I hope she may have some insight.

Has anyone else gone through this? It just seems weird to me that I'm suddenly getting them every three weeks.

I actually had yeast behind my right knee when I left the hospital. I applied some monostat and it went away. They give us steroids through iv to keep infection in our bowels away so that may be why. Of course you just may be prone to it, I wasnt until my hysterectomy in 2006. Now I get a yeast infection every 4 months or so. Make sure your doc knows so he can prescribe what he thinks you need. Good luck.

Did you have any blood sugar issues right before surgery?  I found out I was diabetic before surgery and had AWFUL yeast infections because of it.  May not be the cause, but thought I'd drop my two cents :-)  Good luck!

Nope, my blood sugar was normal. I think it was 73 when I had bloodwork drawn for surgery. I'm actually wondering if the yeast infections are being caused by my Mirena IUD, since it has a slow-releasing hormone. If it gets too out of hand, I may have it removed because getting a yeast infection every three weeks ain't gonna cut it for me.

I would still have the doctor run an A1C.  But it does sound like the mirena might be causing it.  Hope you find an answer!

Okay, I'm not joking! I had chronic yeast infections for years. I was itching and burning all the time. I got a book from the library and learned a trick to cool and soothing relief. Again this is not a joke!

Buy some plain yogurt. Disassemble a tampon. Put a couple of heaping spoons in a cup and put a tampon in it and cover with yogurt. Let it sit in fridge  to get nice and cool. Take tampon out and insert it for a few hours. It will help fight the yeast and soothe you down there. BTW use a panty liner, it is messy but worth it.

I did this for years, and used Monostat and Diflucan. I was a mess down there! I hope this helps.

I am currently at 130 lbs 10 pounds below goal weight!

I'd ask your doctor to do an A1c test tomorrow to help determine if your sugar has gone up overall since surgery. I'm type 2 diabetic and mine has gone crazy since surgery, which can cause more yeast infections. I've been taking a 1 dose of diflucan when I get them.

I am currently taking a crapload of antibiotics for H pylori and everytime I take them, I get the dreaded YI.  I have been eating greek yogurt hoping to get ahead of it and I sure hope it works!  They are so horrible!!  By the way, I haven't had my surgery yet.
