Heavy period after surgery?

Wow! Just craziness!
I should add that this is my first "official" period after surgery. My last one started before surgery, then stopped. It started again hours after surgery and lasted over a week. It was very light, though--maybe a few light tampons. This one almost feels like it's much heavier than any other one I've had since having the Mirena IUD put in a few months ago. It's not as bad as before I had it put in, but it's still a little troubling to me. I'm already anemic--I don't need heavier periods to start creeping up on me again. Hopefully, my doctor will have some insight. If not, I'm sure she'll refer me to a specialist.

I am 3 years into my 2nd Mirena and it had been about 7 months since a real period. A few days into starting my 2 week preop diet I got a period and it got heavier and heavier. About 4 days postop it started subsiding, and after 3 days of lightness it seemed to be gone. Then pow, hit so hard out of the blue and back in full force - but no cramps, back pain or moodiness associated at any time. Can anyone recollect how long before they got back on track again? My GP won't refer me to my gynecologist so I'm unable to talk to her.
