Do most people have complications or not?

MOST people have very uneventful surgeries and very few issues post-op. The people who post teh most are the ones who DO have trouble and therefore have questions or need support. The people who are not having any issues don't post just to say "Day 9 and all is well". Those two things make t appear that there are lots of complications. No need tofetesk out. Expect things to go very smoothly and you will increase the chances that it will.

I had no surgical complications, was eating soft foods the evening of Day Three, eating moist chicken by week 2, never had foamies, never got anything stuck did not throw up until I was 18 months post-op, etc.. The only issues I had that were related to my RNY were much further out.

Most people have no complications, but they do not post as often as people with complications.  Those of us who did have problems, tend to stay on sites like this to get support, I think people without issues just move on with their life's :)

I'm 11 yrs out and I hang out with a bunch of post op RNY patients and none of us have had complications. Some feel the need to post about their troubles, others don't. I find that those going into surgery fairly healthy, those that follow their docs instructions and those going in with their head's in the right place don't have any problems. Complications can and do arise - but the rate for complications from weight loss surgery is the same as open heart surgery, gall bladder removal or c section. about 1 %.  Of all the friends and people I've met throught working with my surgeons office - complications are not normal. There are very few considering what we're goin through. Good luck on your surgery - it was the BEST decision I ever made.

I did not have any complications. I was off pain meds the day after surgery. I walked 10 laps around the nurse's station the day of surgery and 15 the day after. I was in the gym a week after surgery. I even went back to eating regular foods at 2 weeks out. Never did the pureed stage. Jut went from liquids in the hospital to soft foods at home for a few days, then into regular foods. I can even eat steak at 2 months. I still do not eat any breads or pastas though. I think you should stay off YouTube. It is too scary. I almost canceled my surgery because of it. I would have regretted that. I LOVE having made the choice to have this surgery. Everything is great!

I'll be a year out next month and I have been complication free. No issues from my surgery,I can eat what I like(in moderation of course) I don't dump from sugars.

I think most people who have this surgery, have little to no issues.

Of eight people I personally knew that had RNY, I'm the only one that had issues. Those statistics would indicate that I am the exception to the rule. Since you are already aware that complications can arise, just file the info in the back of your mind and save it for if you need it. More than likely you will be fine, you will thrive! Don't focus on what might happen, focus on right now. It will make the road much more fun to drive down.
Good luck :)

I had a pretty uneventful course. I had an issue the day after I came home but it was not related to the surgery per se. It could have happened with ANY surgery I had. I have had no problems related to my surgery - it was the best thing I ever did.

bad  news travels faster than good news. Most people do NOT have complications. Most people get through this with no difficulties, its just that you hear more about the ones with troubles.

I don't think so.  I think it may appear that way when on here because I think most of the people who do post are often looking for answers to complications.  Those who do not have complications would post about what really??

Other then lots of gas pain - which is a normal issue with this surgery - thats all I had. My drain was removed the morning I left the hospital and that's healing nicely.
