When it fell out right after surgery it was because i wasnt consuming enough protein but now i eat lots of protein so i dont know why my hair is falling out. Anybody have any ideas? Its disheartening to see my long locks in my brush instead of on my head

When your hair fell out early after surgery, it was from the telogen effluvium that causes most people to lose hair post-op.  Not getting enough protein can make it worse, but it doesn't cause it.

Have you had your labs checked within the past few months?  There are a number of vitamin deficiencies that can result in hair loss... Zinc, Vit D (which a lot of us have trouble keeping up), Vit A, iron, B12, B6, etc...

Stress, peri-menopause, and menopause can also cause hair loss.

Wow. Im due for my iron infusion next month but other than that my labs are all within normal ranges. Stress...thats definately a possibility. Im still in pain, gallbladder surgery in 2 weeks

I had a second round of hair loss at about 3.5 years out, too, and all my labs were good, but I was having unexplained abdominal pain (very stressful on the nody) AND was peri-menopausal.  I had switched protein powders (one supplement per day) so I switched back to what I had been using and the hair loss stopped almost as suddenly as it started... So we never did figure out the cause.

Hopefully it is just stress related and will stop once you get the gallbladder taken care of.

Are you SURE all your other labs are within normal range?  I ask because some docs don't check for very many vitamin and mineral levels unless you specifically ask them to, and sometimes they don't tell you if something is just a little lower than the reference range on the lab report.

Do you know for sure that your zinc and vitamin A levels are good?

Is your iron low?  Why aren't they doing the iron infusion before you have your surgery in two weeks?

Kelly, this is my regular scheduled iron infusion. He doesnt even know about the surgery because i havent seen him since april. As far as my labs, my numbers are on the low to medium range. For example, if a 68 is normal mine would be 68 or 69 but as far as my exact numbers, i would have to look it up.
