Protein amount required per day
Have a question I have emailed my dietian a today but I am only 7 weeks out... Was told not to focus in peotein right now just do the 3 meals 1/4 cup each meal but I read allot people get 60-80 grams per day when I asked her about protein she said I only needed 20 for my frame .. I only get like 15-20 grams right now
I know every doctor is different but that's way off

I'm sorry that your dietician told you that. She is sorely wrong. To figure out how much is ideal for you take your "ideal" weight and devide that by two. That number is your protein goal :-)
For me, my ideal weight is 130 so /2 is 65. I aim for 100 after my recent stall, from advise of vets... and it has worked well for me.

ummm 20? I've never heard such a low number. I was told as a female I need to get in 60 grams a day and I may need more based on labs as I go forward.
From the ASMBS website:
Protein intake
Current clinical practice recommendations for protein
intake after surgery without complications are consistent
with those for medically supervised modified protein fasts.
Experts recommend up to 70 g/d during weight loss on
very-low-calorie diets [167]. The recommended dietary allowance
(RDA) for protein is approximately 50 g/d for
normal adults [166]. Many programs recommend a range of
60–80 g/d total protein intake or 1.0 –1.5 g/kg ideal body
weight (IBW), although the exact needs have yet to be
defined. The use of 1.5 g of protein/kg IBW/day after the
early postoperative phase is probably greater than the metabolic
requirements for noncomplicated patients and might
prevent the consumption of other macronutrients in the
context of volume restriction. An analysis of RYGB patient’s
typical nutrient intake at one year post surgery found
no significant changes in albumin with daily protein consumption
at 1.1 g/kg IBW [168]. After BPD/DS procedures,
the amount of protein should be increased by 30% to
accommodate for malabsorption, making the average protein
requirement for these patients approximately 90 g/d

She told me she just wanted me to focus on the 3 meals a day.. not sure if this is to grow a habit and then start learning to add my protein... but yeah.. I was always told to eat 60-80 per day, and I went to see her because my weight loss had stopped and she told me I was eating way too much and too much protein. So she cut me from 6 small meals to just 3 per day and only focus on portion vs. protein or calories.

Umm, no. You can do 20g a day for the first weeks if that's what you can get in. You won't get protein deficient that quick and water is most important during that time.
However, you cannot sustain that ultimately, probably after 3 months, you'll want to get in about 65g a day minimum and work toward more like 75 or 80. When you start working out alot, you want even more than that.
This will all take time. But 20g is NOT right, not after a month or two has passed. You need to up it.

Protein promotes healing and tissue regrowth after surgery. It also helps to provide satiety, so you won't feel hungry. If you become depleted, then your body will feed off itself from muscle (guess what your heart is made of?) RNYers are known for their protein forward diet, so I'm also wondering why she has you starting out with bad habits from the beginning. I'm also wondering if your dietitian really up to speed on the needs of WLS patients?
