You don't eat anything with carbs other than popcorn?  So no beans, no milk or yogurt, no fruits or  veggies that contain carbs?

I would add some good carbs to your diet.  Beans a great choice.  They have fiber, good carbs, and protein.  But fruits and veggies and dairy products are good, too.  If you want grains, go for whole grains, like a little brown rice or half a slice of whole grain toast.

What if you tried breaking your three meals into five or six?  If you find it hard to eat a larger amount of food, you could eat the same volume/calories, but spread it out over the day more.  That will keep your blood sugar more even.

Most granola bars are high in sugar but you could get a protein bar that is low in sugar, like Atkins.

Vegetables (squash, green beans, corn and eggplant come to mind immediately), beans, whole grains, and fruit are good sources of carbs that aren't bad for you in moderate amounts.

I eat a banana early in the morning with my iron. Then I usually have a salad with beans at lunch or a sandwhich with whole wheat sandwhich thins and then dinner has vegetables or whole grains. I haven't had any regain on this diet at all.

Thanks guys! I talked to my NUT and she doesnt want me to alter anything just yet. She had me fax her my Daily Logs to see what I am eating and how much and to see if maybe there is something I am eating that is messing with my blood sugar. We talked for a bit and she came to the conclusion that it is reactive hypoglycemia. So, thats where i am at right now. She'll be calling me to let me know what she thinks I should change. I told her about eating popcorn and she said to stop, that it is dangerous for me, because its one of those foods that gets stuck inside. I told her I chew, chew, chew, but she still wants me to stop. I also told her about eating nuts when I want something crunchy, and she wants me to eat carrots instead, because of the oil in the nuts. We talked about the dumping and and the dizziness and she thinks I just have a super sensitive pouch and any sort of carbs, sugar or oils are gonna make me sick (which in the past it has).

I cant drink milk or eat yogurt because since surgery I am lactose intolerant and I get diarrhea. (yuck) I eat beans occasionally, but since it isnt a dense protien, I don't eat them often. And no, so far I havent really eaten veggies. I had carrots once I got sick. Broccolli sits hard in my pouch. Corn is prohibited on my plan. but i have eaten eggplant and that sat well. I tried peppers once and did okay with them. Fruit I am careful with, cause again, I dump. Bananas for sure will make me sick. I've tried apples and it seems it's a hit or miss. I can do grapes, but only like two or three at a time. I think overall, I just have a super sensitive pouch.

I will try different things though and wait to see what my NUT comes up with. Thanks for all the advice.

I get some pretty wicked RH sometimes!!! When I feel it coming on, I eat some freeze dried fruit. One of the little Disney brand pouches has 30 calories and only 4g of sugars. Theres no protein in it, but it has just enough kick to keep my blood sugar from bottoming out. Plus, the little pouches are great to throw into the car, my purse, and my desk at work for those "just-in-case" moments!!!!!

I had to add a bit of low sodium lentil soup (with most of the liquid drained off) to my diet to up my good carbs!!

Good luck, keep us posted on how you are doing once you figure out how to tweak your plan.

If you only symptom is dizzy that doesn't seem like RH, did they give you a blood glucose meter to test yourself with?  I have RH so I understand the symptoms very well and of course they are related to too many carbs.  I have had blood pressure issues (going too low) and come to find out my sodium level was way too low.  I passed out at a 4th of July parade.  Dehydration can also cause dizzyness.  For me RH is more sick, queasy, dizzy, cold or sweaty, heart pounding like an anxiety attack feeling, never dizzy alone.

Good Luck

They gave me the blood meter to check my levels and so far they seem fine (always in the 80's). Also I have a BP machine. It seems to be that cause I've been low twice already. So I don't think it's RH either. Plus, like I said before, I'm not eating that many carbs, and from what I've read here, carbs is what causes RH, right? I'm not 100% sure though. I'll keep trying different things. My NUT doesn't want me adding more meals or snacks, but I think I might go ahead and buy some of those protien bars from
Costco and use that as a snack. But for now, I will try it her way and use veggies instead of nuts and see if that makes a difference.

I have been eating 5-7 times a day for all 5 years since surgery and am maintaining my weight. You are not being told to eat two more full meals... Just eat more to increase your calories a bit and eat more often to keep your blood sugar, etc. more stable. There are LOTS of simple, healthy protein/carb "snacks" you can have that will accomplish the goal without adding too much in the way of calories. My "go to" items are cheese sticks, half a serving of nuts, yogurt, deli meat and cheese roll up (I don't use bread, just wrap them together).

I would personally recommend avoiding things like protein bars or (worse) granola bars, but part of my post-op philosophy about food is to eat "real" food rather than special "bariatric" types of foods and to limit the chemicals as much as I can with reasonable attention to what I am eating (e.g., deli meat does have some preservatives, etc. but as a single person, cooking up a turkey breast provides MUCH more food than I can eat before it spoils).

Lora, it's true I should avoid protein bars, and for sure granola bars. And I honestly never thought 3 meals a day was enough. So I have been eating a "snack" at the end of the day, usually nuts or cheese. But I've always felt guilty doing it cause I was told, "No Snacking". But now that my doc has told me that, I feel a bit better doing it. It just seems like 5-6 times a day is a lot. But I will eliminate the nuts and see if that's what's causing the dizziness. (Today I did fine, had some nuts and felt dizzy again. So I didn't eat anymore, but still felt dizzy tonight. I'm thinking it's not the nuts, but like I said before, I will get to the bottom of this!).

Not all snacks are created equal. There is a huge difference between having a snack of potato chips or pretzels and having a PLANNED PROTEIN snack that is part of your overall eating plan.

I'm confused. Why do you think nuts would make you dizzy?

Just wondering - have you had your iron levels checked to make sure you're not anemic?  Anemia can cause all kinds of weird things too.
