1st day of 14 day preop --very hard day but I conquered it...
Although I didn't have a pre-op diet, I used to (in the dieting days) do a 2 or 3 day fast to start myself off. My trick to getting through it was to go for a walk every time I felt an "I want food SO bad I could rip the face off a cow!!" meltdown coming on. It made me feel stronger every time I got through it.
Luckily, I didn't have that feeling post-op at all.

Hello , I had to do that also. Believe me, it helps you prepare for the diet after your surgery. I am 5 weeks post op today and it is all worth it! I craved chewing too, so I chewed on ice when I just had to have something solid... also Sugar Free popsicles are still a favorite for me. Once you get past the 3rd day, you are home free. Thanks everyone for your words of encourgement and advice.....I will get thru this...just head hunger playing games with me. I had support that brought me back to reality...My husband and daughter were very supportive with me last night...they ate what i ate for dinner which i ate vegetable broth and they had vegetable beef soup and we all sat and ate together. I was good all day till dinner ...i guess because that's the time we always come together to discuss our day and events..I will take all of your advice and I know i can do this. It has been many of years of OA pain in both knees and it's time I did this for me. My husband told me last night how proud he was of me for taking the steps and courage to do something for me so that we can live a long healthy life(he's in the army 23+ years and has always been fit)...Again thank you to everyone for being so awesome!!!
Dang! My liquid diet before surgery is nothing like that.
I can have:
4 1/2 can of High Protein Slim Fast daily, or
5 1/2 pakts of no sugar added carnation instant breakfast drink mixed with fat free or 1% milk daily, or
5 individual cartons of Atkins advantage daily, or
4 1/2 bottles of glucose controlled boost daily.
I can also include water, crystal light, decaf tea, sugar free gelatin or sugar free popsicles. Thats it. 800 caleries.
