has anyone been having issues with not being hungry really at all during the whole day??  i find this a big issue...and then trying to make sure i at least get protein in my system.  i'm 10 weeks post op and have lost 61lbs so far...i have the hardest time trying to even eat one meal a day..but i know having the protein is really important...any suggestions on things you are eating or helping you get in the protein you need???

Many RNYers eat by the clock rather than when they are hungry since if you only eat when hungry, you will not get enough nutrition. I strongly suggest doing that, since not only will it help you get in the meals you need but will help you establish a pattern that will be helpful down the road (if you train yourself to eat only when itis time, it will help when the urge to snack hits... and, trust me, the urge to snack WILL come back eventually!).

It is not only a matter of getting enough protein, BTW, but it is also a matter of getting enough calories. Too few calories can cause your body to drop your metabolism down both short term AND long term (which can end up biting you in the butt during maintenance if your metabolism is permanently reduced). Some people, even if they get "enough" calories end up with a permanently lowered metabolism, so you don't want to do anything that will increase the chances of that.

Very early out, if you are getting in 500 you are doing just fine! As you are able to eat a bit more and a wider variety of foods, your calories should go up. My surgeon did not give us any calorie targets. We were told to focus on getting in the 60-80g of protein every day and making healthy food choices (limiting our carbs, fats, and processed foods), and that, if we did that, the calories would take care of themselves. In my experience, she was correct.

I feel ya! I have been so busy with my son's wedding that I realized yesterday that I hadn't eaten in 3 days. If that isn't bad enough... I didn't feed my hubby either, lol. The poor guy is old enough to fix his own fortunately or he would be half dead. I only feel this sense of emptiness and I guess that's my hungry feeling. What I eat that has a good bit of protein is either the greek yogurt with 2x the protein or cottage cheese. They both have a lot in a small serving, but I also bought some Protein Ice shots. They are really gross but at 4 ounces I can choke one down a day and its 32 grams protein. Good luck and keep on sipping and nibbling.

The protein shots you bought are primarily collagen protein which you cannot absorb! They are almost useless to your body, so you are NOT getting the protein you think you are. You are getting less than 5g of protein from them because their bioavailability is only .08 (whereas whey protein is a perfect 1.0, where you absorb all of it). Going three days without eating is NOT good, and counting on these protein shots is making the situation worse. PLEASE take better care of yourself and get some decent protein in on a regular basis throughout every day.

Your body NEEDS protein and will take what it needs from your muscles if you don't provide it brought food. Eventually, your body will start taking protein from your heart because your heart is a muscle! What most frequently kills anorexics is heart failure because of this very thing..

If they are collegen then they will be sued. It plainly states in the ingredients whey protein.

Ingredients:Triple filtered water pure protein isolate blend, (ultra filtered whey protein isolate enzomatic hydrolized protein isolate), phosphoric acid, citric acid, natural and artificial flavor, maylic acid, potassium sorbate etc...

I dont see collegen listed anywhere.

I stand corrected.  These, then, are the SECOND type of bullets/shots that are whey protein.  The "Yes Whey" brand is the other.  The other protein shots, however, are collagen and should be avoided because they are useless.

I do stand by my concern about going three days without eating, however.

Aw you are so sweet to care about us. We appreciate you vets and professionals looking out for us. I am back on track as of today. Thanks. Those shots are really gross though, lol.

Yeah, I bought one of the Yes Whey ones just to try it out and see if the taste and texture was any better than the old ones (I had tried some of the bad collagen ones several years ago before I knew they were collagen and useless.. And they were pretty disgusting). The Yes Whey one was a little better texture (the collagen New Whey ones were/are like thick jello that is not quite set), but was still pretty nasty.
