Day from hell
We decided to take my husband to another ER in hopes that the docs there might actually listen to him and treat him. By the grace of the Lord Almighty, they did. He is having a steroid injection in his neck tomorrow and sending him home for a few days to prepare for a neck fusion. It has been a very long day on very little sleep and I have barely eaten anything, but got plenty of fluids. I am so stressed out with everything that I have no appetite whatsoever. I did get some food in the cafeteria at the hospital. THey had egg salad in a cup with fat free mayo in it. Sounded like a good choice in the moment. And it was delicious. Until about 10 minutes later when I dumped like a mofo. Sweating, cramps, diahrreha, dry heaves. I was crying it was so bad. What the hell did I do? Eggs are good for me, I tasted no sugar in it, and it was labeled fat free mayo used in it. I dont know what the hell happened. My poor hubby cant move his head and I am dying in the chair next to him. They wanted to admit me with him until I explained between heaves what was happeneing to me. The staff at this hospital are night and day compared to the first one we went to. Very caring and supportive and no one tried to talk down to us. When we took him to the ER, we brought one of his friends who is a nurse and (who posed as my sister to get in) to help it along. So Im sure weight loss will be quick this week. Hopefully I can get back on a schedule again.
Just noted the Kraft FF mayo has 1g sugar per tbsp, so it's not entirely sugar free. Many post ops react to oils or grease in foods just as bad, if not worse, then sugars alone. It's always a good idea to bring something with you as an "emergency meal kit", as you can never guarantee whether ingredients are sugar free, type of oil used in cooking, seasonings... etc. Dave

I agree with the other posts, it was probably fat/greese.. I don't do well with that at all (I'm very early post-op)... BUT major kudos for making a good food choice because egg is good and you tried and that is what counts... sorry you had a bad reaction...
The only low fat or fat free food I eat is milk or yoghurt. Everything else is full fat. If a food is fat free or low fat it has to have something added to make it taste good - usually sugar or sugar substitute.
Eating low fat or fat free as an RNY'er really isn't necessary - I still malabsorb fats at 8 years out - and it is certainly better for us in RH and constipation terms to eat a normal (not high fat/fried foods) fat diet!!!
