Monday is my turn - RNY and Gallbladder surgery
Hi All,
Monday is my RNY and Gallbladder surgery (removal). Has anyone else had their galbladder removed at the same time as your RNY? If so, were you in a lot of pain? My sister is freaking me out by saying the pain from the gallbladder will be worse than the RNY. She had gallbladder removed over 15 years ago and still say it was the worst thing every.
Wish me luck and PRAY that everything goes well and I return home safe.

I didn't have them done together, but found my gallbladder removal to be a piece of cake. The RNY was a little more painful but not horrible. If I knew that my gallbladder would need to go I definitely would have had it done all at once.

I had my gall bladder out years ago also, way before my RNY. It was bad but back then it was open and a tough surgery. These days, folks seem to breeze through it. If I hadn't had mine out already, I think doing it at the same time would be the way to go. It is so common to need it removed after losing a bunch of weight (mine came out after I lost 60lbs on WW) that it makes sense to do it all together while they are in there anyway. good luck, Have a textbook surgery and a boring recovery.

Just read your post and by the looks of your picture you are a lot younger than I am. I'm 67 and I had RNY, gallbladder removal and a herniated emblical cord repair all at the same time. I won't tell you it was piece of cake, but the post-op pain wasn't as bad as I ecpected. Since I had 7 holes in my tummy I think the gallbladder pain was the least. I spent a few extra days in the hospital because I couldn't get rid of the gas. I sleep on my side and I thought after surgery it would be months before I could do that. I spent the first 2 nights at home in my recliner and didn't really sleep well at all. My third night I said the hell with it, slept in my bed on my side with a pillow pulled against my stomach. At the hospital and at home I did not use anyone's help in getting in or out of bed. Yes there was pain doing it this way, but i would be damned if I would use a bedpan or urinal.
I hope your surgery goes good and I'm sure there are a lot of people from this forum that will be praying for you Monday.
By the way, I started this journey at 341 and my surgery weight was 313 on May 17th. Here it is just 5 months and a few days later and I am down ONE THIRD of my high weight. I hit 227 this morning. And there is nobody more amazed than me that I have surpassed my surgeons original weight loss goal of 100 lbs. I'm not stopping now.
Your going to be fine.
Jim
