For those that haven't read them, here's a link:  nutrition.otago.ac.nz/__data/assets/file/0005/4784/Bariatric NutritionReading.pdf  It's rather dry reading, but important stuff we should all know.

Hey Poet Kelly!  Thank you sooooo much.  I just spent the last two hours reading this and taking notes and looking carefully at all my supplements.  Hugely helpful!  Can I get an iron recommendation from you?  I am taking ferrous gluconate right now and is still upsets my belly, any ideas?  Also, my surgeon has me taking a PPI, panteprozole, as a "pouch protector" to guard against ulcers, maybe forever they said.  but I read here that it interferes with B-12 absorption.  Have you heard of this?

I'm on a PPI for life using omeprazole and my B12 levels are great using sublingual B12 liquid. I used to get the injections each month and my levels never got over 400. Now with the sublingual B12 liquid my level is over 1500.

Carbonyl iron.  I use Sundown Perfect iron, but Feosol makes a carbonyl iron and so does Bariatric Advantage, I believe.  And Vitalady has carbonyl iron.  Taking it with food might help, too.

The PPI should not interfere with the absorption of your B12 because you shouldn't be taking a B12 that you swallow.  You need sublingual B12 that dissolves under your tongue, or else the nasal spray or shots.  Those will not be affected by the PPI.
