Eating as I prepare foods....a VERY hard habit to break. Maybe not so difficult after this...

As I prepare foods, I taste.  After the RNY, however, I can't taste everything that I'm making because I am continuing to cook for my family (in a more healthy way) as I did prior to my surgery.  They have brown rice, wheat tortillas, whole grain pastas, and other foods that I just choose not to eat...I'm afraid that I won't tolerate them and have dumping.  I am SO afraid of dumping.  This morning, I'm making some Chicken Tortilla Soup and am not tasting it due to the raw chicken. But, I'm also making some Spinach Bread (bread alternative) and I did taste it when it was finished.  The only problem was, I forgot that I was also drinking my protein shake at that time.  I took a bite of the spinach and then swallowed the shake. It was fine, at first.  After a little bit, I had AWFUL pain and burping like mad.  Eventually, the bit of spinach that I didn't chew well came back up.  Luckily, I have no cramping or other problems...so far.  It was uncomfortable enough that it may keep me from tasting as I cook from now on!

I was a "taste tester" too, and had a terrible time remembering to NOT do that! What I finally did was to wear latex gloves while I cooked. Somehow it reminded me to not pop something in my mouth. Eventually I didn't need them anymore but it was my way of breaking the habit

This was extremely difficult for me to stop. I'm a chef so we're taught to taste EVERYTHING! I still taste when I'm preparing a new recipe but I try less than a baby spoon full. Haven't had problems with that.
