My solution to 1st Thanksgiving post op

Thanksgiving is on my mind!  Has been since I had my RNY surgery.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE stuffing and I know I cannot have it, so I've been trying to find a substitute recipe, convincing myself that it will not bother me to have others around me eating it at the table, just driving myself crazy with thoughts of Thanksgiving dinner and my new eating.
Sooo...Monday and Tuesday, I worked at our local food kitchen/church to register the needy in our community for food boxes and coats for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  While I was there, I met with a minister and workers who serve the dinners during the holidays.  My solution is to serve the needy in my community instead of feeling sorry for myself!  I, along with my teenaged daughter, will spend the day feeding the needy at our local food kitchen!  How can I think about ME when so many are less fortunate?  I know there will be stuffing there, but I'll have my foods, protein shakes and will be too busy to think about it!

What a great, and selfless idea!

I can't get out of Thanksgiving because my family goes camping at the beach for Thanksgiving, it is our tradition but I will just limit the things I eat. Last year on Thanksgiving I was on my 2 weeks of optifast. At least I can consume something this year besides a shake LOL.

I know that I'll be able to eat a few bites of some of the foods, along with whatever protein snacks I bring.  It'll just be another new adventure!
Have fun with camping.  That sounds like fun.  I'm not much of a camper, but at the beach sounds fun.

Wow~  that is a wonderful solution!  You have inspired me to look into doing the same thing in my community.  We will be able to help others while doing what is best for ourselves as well.   Thanksgiving really should be more about "giving"  and less about stuffing our faces with food.

My daughter and I have wanted to do this for a few years.  She wasn't old enough until last year, but I often cook for the family and couldn't find time.  I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving now!

That is a lovely idea.  I'm planning to just eat turkey and veggies at our Thanksgiving.  I will only allow myself one single tiny bite to taste the stuffing and no desserts

This is a great idea.

But if you do decide you want to try some stuffing, how about making it with whole grain bread?  (We're making it with whole grain bread, Earth Balance margarine, onions, celery, and spices...so I can have some and vegan daughters can too.  We just need to find a decent loaf of vegan whole grain bread...)
