National Race to End Women's Cancer 8k
Today I ran my second 8k race, the National Race to End Women's Cancer. I ran as part of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance's team (Team Teal) in honor of my mother-in-law Lynn, who passed away from ovarian cancer last week.
When I signed up for the race several months ago, I didn't know it would be such an emotional experience for my husband and I. Leading up to today, he wasn't sure if he'd be able handle the event. When he pulled himself out of bed at 7 a.m. to join me, I felt stronger and more determined to do my best. When I crossed the finish line and hugged my husband, it was a really wonderful moment. We were both really glad that we were there. Here are a few pictures:
Good morning Washington, DC! It was in the upper 30s when the race started. Brr! I had on a lot of layers.
The Capitol Building in the distance:
"I fight like a girl for Lynn!"
Laughing at something, probably knowing I'm being photographed:
Ready for takeoff:
And the finish!

Thanks! It was a good time. It's basically the AIDS Walk course with a stretch up the Hill and some side streets tacked on.
I know Lynn would have been very proud. :-)
