hanging skin????????????????
I honestly feel like if a body part of yours is hanging before surgery then............ after surgery and when the weight is gone the same body part will still hang....... Also if a person is really overweight.... verses... a person that is smaller they will have less skin... what are your thoughts on this?????
I was almost 300 lbs and had watched numerous videos on youtube scared to death I was gonna have my kanga pouch hang lower than it already did. However, the weight started to come off and it did start to sag, until I started to excercise about 3 months post op. I got to 4-6 miles a day walking/running/climbing and I had built so much muscle underneath it I thought I had a hernia..lol! The pouch of course is not what I wi**** to look like, but it's not sagging either! I think skin is a tricky thing. My friend had the surgery before me and she was probably 60 lbs heavier and had been heavy most of her life, whereas I had only been really heavy for about 5-7 years. She barely has issues with her skin hanging, yet I have some bat wings..lol! I don't understand it.
I agree with both statements. I had hanging abdominal skin before surgery due to 5 pregnancies. Some people have skin that bounces back after that much stretching, but not me! I posted about my skin removal LINK. That will show you my before and after there.

What I've noticed is that it has started to bounce back. I was over 300 lbs. and I had 3 rolls that literally looked like tires wrapped around me.
The first 100 lbs I lost, made them just hang there, especially my pannis and mon area. But as time went on, the rolls above that have seemed to shrink and they're almost gone now, at least from the sides. I can hope right?
I think exercise, age, and maybe using some sort of support (I use spanx) has a lot to do with how much your skin will bounce back. My pannis won't, I can see that now. It actually hangs lower now and it's longer on one side than the other. Neither will my mon. I'll probably need plastics for that. But the other two rolls are slowly shrinking and that I am glad for.

From what I've been researching on line it really comes down to one main factor ... genetics. There's no rhyme or reason to it, just your family tree. Someone with good genes and 200+ lbs to loose with have less excess skin than someone who has 50lbs to lose and bad genes.
I always remember my grandma had "bingo wings" so I'm fully expecting that I will end up with them too. I'm trying to do what I can to tone as I go but I can already see the potential for flight happening ![]()
I came to terms with the fact that I wasn't doing this hoping for a bikini-body or even a tank-top body long before surgery and I'm hoping that I can stay comfortable with that once the weight is lost.
Exercising helps with the toning and therefore some of the excess skin. I've heard taking MSM helps with it too (I add it to my morning shakes)
I found this guy on line a while ago - http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm - I'd posted the article in the forums but never got any comments of what people thought about it. Some of what he says seems quite logical but I don't know if any of it is very practical.
Our bodies created more skin to cover the expanded growth. When we lose weight, we don't lose skin, and the body does not reabsorb it. So, it stands to reason, the extra skin will "hang" to a degree. Elasticity, age, genetics and how long we are overweight all play a part. Exercise can increase muscle mass which makes the skin "drape" better.
At the end of the day, most of us need plastics to remove unwanted skin. I'm having a LBL and BL: this Friday, 3.5 years after my surgery. I never thought I'd want to remove the skin, but after fighting hygiene issues and having it in my way when I exercise, I've decided to go for it.
I will be a year out on Nov. 26 and my starting weight was 298 I am now 162lbs....I am not bothered by my excess skin that much...I look AMAZING in clothes... and being a single, dating female, the issue of a new man seeing me naked does come up! I do have batwings but it doesn't stop me from wearing sleeveless(I just don't raise my arms to WAVE...lol)... my inner thighs have a bit of excess skin too but it doesn't stop me from wearing shorts or short skirts...they just can't be MINI Skirts or under the bum shorts, but I am going on 36 so no worries there...my stomach is good eventhough I have been pregnant 2 x's and my baby is 5yrs old...it is good to the point that I wear bikini's and I am going to pierce my belly button! I am not considering having surgery to remove any of my excess skin...it just doesn't bother me that much...I went from a size 22 to I am now a size 5-6...that is a MAJOR accomplishment and I am so happy "no loose excess skin is going to change that!"
